Touch Up Paint

Has anyone ever bought the touchup paint from Rx8Strakes cause I have a couple of scratches on the front lip I was gonna try to touchup cause I dont have the money for a new one I was wondering how good the stuff was.

I would think you're be better off getting it direct from Mazda to assure color match. btw: Original owners all got touch up paint for free from Mazda. It came in the mail a few months after the vehicle buy.

Rosenthal (aka Performance Line) and Trussville are RX-8 club affilitated online Mazda dealers and very good to deal with.

btw: when you do touch up don't use the brush that's part of the paint vial cap as it tends to 'blob' on too much paint. Use a paper match instead and build up very light layers. It's somewhat tedious but far better than having to smooth out blob's.

I dunno. It came for my 2005 RX-8 and my daughter's 2002 Mazda6 in the mail a few months after I purchased each.

I already recommended how to apply it.

so i got it and used it and well what to say... well just dont expect much. the color match is exact but just the process is a little on the difficult side and then the aftereffect isnt all that great. yes from far away you cant see the chips but from close look you can see where it has been touched up..i think your better off getting one those scratch removers or sumthin cuz the touch up paint is just ya....dont expect much. it is what it is.:squint:

Yep; that's why we all hate rock chips so much.

always.anthony 03-18-2009 10:15 AM

is it just one coat for this touch up paint?

any clear coating involved, or just this one can and your set?

Huey52 03-18-2009 10:59 AM

Again, you're best off building up several light coats of chip touchup paint to preclude blobs. Tedious but better than having to deal with blobs. Also, again, use the end of a paper match rather than the brush that comes with the piant vial. The brush tends to apply too much with too little control. The paper match will absorb an overage. You can clear after the color-matched application, but not necessary unless filling a very large chip. I would still recommend Mazda paint to assure the right match for your color/year.
