Tein Hood Dampers: Worth It?
Hey guys I am am possibly purchasing a set of Tein Hood dampers from a member on monday. I wanted to know they are worth buying since there is a hood gap. Has anyone found a way to fix it? Also, will a lot of water get in the engine bay from rain or washing the car since there is a gap? If this is the case I may not buy them. I have searched but can't seem to find the answer. I would love to have hood struts over the hood latch. Is the gap small enough that this wont be an issue? I am sort of picky with my car, so imperfections seem to really bother me, that is why I am mulling over getting them. If these will be noticeable on a day to day basis I won't buy them. By the way they are painted black. If anyone can help me out that would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I can't speak about the TEINS but I own the NRG set which are advertised to fit the RX8 and the protege. The design is pretty much the same as the TEINS without the $200+ cost.
Check out www.evasivemotorsports.com and look at the low pressure NRG's. The only way the hood would bow out or have gaps is because the damper would sit on top of the plastic tabs towards the wiper area of the car. I cut those out cause they really didn't serve much of a purpose and the hood would close flush. Only thing is to make sure you order the low pressure struts cause the standard are made for a 25 lbs or heavier hood. |
The guy I may be buying them from is selling them to me for $88 shipped. I would get the NRG ones, but I want in carbon fiber and they become almost as expensive as new Teins.
|
I have the CF NRG's and love em
|
^^^Would the Tein's I plan on getting still be worth it? I am worried about the hood gap.
|
No way to really answer that. I've seen people with both Tein's and NRG's. With both i've seen gaps and no gaps. I have no gap with my NRG's. You can always get the ones for 88 and if they gap you can resell them here.
Mazda does make a bonnet damper but you'd have to purchase them from someone who can get EU parts. |
How hard would it be to install for someone who has never attempted something like this before?

I have the Teins powdercoated black. The hood gap really isn't that noticeable. Seems more so in the pics, but I am quite happy.
I'm very picky about my car and once again............I am satisfied. Have had them for over a year and no issues at all. Shitty pics, but here ya go. |
that looks nice, thats my next mod

I plan to get a new hood and maybe go for some teins later on. The NRGs messed up my current hood.

Mazurfer... do the Tein's make the engine bay get all wet when it rains or you wash the car since their is a gap? Also, did you modify the brackets to make the hood gap smaller? Thanks.
|
Also will these work with an aftermarket hood that is Frp? I may end up getting the Autoexe SE-03 hood and don't want this to be a problem.

I'll go find the thread where someone was doing a group buy on these and it will have quite a few pictures in it and some good info for you. This person isn't doing the group buy anymore and was really very bad at actually getting them to use, but so don't even think about using him, but search the thread for pics. Here's the thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=hood+dampers |
Thanks. I searched the thread, but couln't find info about water getting in.

After I get done ripping out my gauge setup and then reinstalling it, if I still have time (and am not too drunk), I'll be installing my Tein dampers. |
