"Tape" over License Plate Light?

I just received my LED bulbs for my Side Markers and License Plate today. I went out to change them and when I got to my License Plate light there is some sort of red "tape"-like thing covering my license plate light.

Does anyone know what that is? It has been on there ever since I purchased the car (about 3-4 weeks now) and this is the first time I went back there and noticed it (first time I ever looked at my license plate light though).

previous owner might have broken the clear cover. try removing it and see whats hiding underneath. it should not be on there.

I figured it shouldn't be on there...never heard of red tape being a part of an RX8.

Just making sure that no one else has done this or heard of it or anything lol.

worst case, put another piece of tape on or buy a new cover.

Where can I go to get a cover? I am having a hard time finding one.

I peeled the tape/whatever-it-is back and I think I saw a light cover, but it was getting dark and hard to see.

I'll do it tomorrow once I am home from school so I'll keep it update on here.
