Tail Lights Cracked

1 Attachment(s)
Hey,

Here's the story. Used 04 GT 6MT came with moisture in tail lights. Never really bothered me too much. Used Duplicolor MetalCast Red on the lens. Looked GREAT and performed just fine except for the reverse lights of course. Never used clear so over time the red has faded away but that's not my problem.

Has anyone else had their tail lights crack like mine? I'm not sure if the moisture was the culprit or if it was the spray that did it. I already have brand new ones ready to install but I'm just curious.

From that picture, if moisture or paint are your two options, I would go with the paint.

Are you sure no one had hit it or anything and those might be your options? Also, tip to fix the "moisture" thing is to buy some cheap, weather stripping from any supply store and go over the actual worn down spots.

I'm sure no one has hit my car.

I've seen the evolution from hairline crack to this picture over the past year.

I think the paint affected the lens more. BUT, only the driver side is like this, the passenger side is actually just fine.

I still doubt it was moisture, as many people have had the moisture problem and I haven't seen any crack like this due to that. The actual hairline crack is the main culprit for the whole thing. Just like a windshield, a smack crack will eventually crack the whole thing, just a matter of time depending upon the elements.

Was the hairline crack there prior to you painting them?

I think there was a hairline crack and it grew, because the other side is okay.

Yup I get you guys. I guess I really wanted to believe it was something other than an impact because I've never seen and damage occur. Oh well. Brand new tail lights are sexy.

This time I'll be using a film rather than paint but that MetalCast look was so hot. Also, I want to route the reverse lights to the rear rotary symbol. I KNOW they make them (I searched) so does anyone know where to get a clear rotary symbol light?

I just installed mine, one of my easiest mods to do. I am going to post all of my mods I have done eventually when I "clean up" everything.

In regards to this, I bought my rear fog light (that is the term) from Lebren (lebren.com). He has a "smoked" one which is cool, because it looks like it's not even there, as well as a red colored one. He sells the most common one you probably will see on most rx8's. There are OEM ones that European cars have, you could pick those up too.

In regards to the Lebren one, his DIY involves using a chrome covering, so I bought this one: Rear Rotary Accent Stainless Steel Polished
