Stock Exhaust Shrouds?

Has anyone removed the stock exhaust shrouds permanently? I'm thinking of doing this and was wondering if anyone had pics. Thanks in advance.

I haven't, but I just posted something similar in the Vendor section on the "Mazda Wants Your Input" thread.

I said Mazda should develop a factory replacement exhaust shroud that switches out with the stock one and looks more like the MS rear.

Are you talking about the black part around the tips?

yes. there are held in place by some clips.

You can take them off pretty easily, but it'll look hideous. I took mine off at a friend's house the night before I installed my MS Kit. It looked horrible.

You know, i was about to post "go for it, should look real good", but then realized i can't even be an ass when i try.

Crap

LOL!! eh... it was just a thought! but like jaguargod said, if they came out with some replacement shrouds that were open at the bottom, they could look hot!

There are alot of really good aftermarket rear bumpers and rear skirts, not just the MS Rear Diffuser. Plenty to chose from, so I wouldn't really wait for Mazda to put something out.

i know and understand that. it would be more economically feasible to do something simple, as opposed to changing the whole bumper+install+paint, etc.

Yeah, what I had in mind was just a very small replacement piece, the same size as the stock shrouds. Pull off the stock ones, slap the new one on, and get a look similar to the exhaust shrouds on the MS diffuser, without the $800 price tag. I can do alot of stuff with $800, and the MS unit isn't even a full replacement. From the directions I read, the kit is held to the OEM bumper at the top with 3M tape. Just doesn't seem very sturdy. It looks great, but I just can't justify $800 for what I would get.

Its held on with 3M tape just like the rest of the kit. But also like the rest of the kit... its also held in with brackets and fastners all around.

BTW, the factory apperance package is also held on with 3M tape and a few brackets.

Is the diffuser even functional then? (3M tape surprises me) I was following an Elise to a DE on the highway and his stock rear diffuser kicked up a cloud/vortex of dust and debris on the road and kept it up for miles.
