So whats the verdict on LEDs in clear corners?

I've heard some say its not a good idea because of the heat and some say its fine. Honestly I don't really notice any extream heat around that area on my car. I've already ordered some LED's but I just want some feedback.

I've been running LEDs in most of my 194 wedge bulb spots for a while now and have had several failures no matter what the location (my rear license plate bulb has failed the most times). Surges in voltage are probably the reason for the failures more than heat. I've added LED protectors from autolumination to all my LEDs and haven't had a failure since (knock on wood). Link to the LED protectors (scroll down):

BTW, I have the following bulbs in my clear corners and they are bright as hell. Love em:

LED's are perfectly fine to use in the clear corners. Heck, RotaryRasp made a set with 12 of the little bad boys in there.

Aipex, sweet lookin' bulbs. I was thinking of ordering a pair of those

I have replaced all my 194 wedges in the car with LED's and they look great. The only problem I had was the little parking lights in the head light housing, one of my LED's started to flicker (im thinking because of the heat) anyways I changed it out and its good to go again.

Jedi54 09-05-2007 05:56 PM

Kris: I had the same issue with those lights when I had autolumination bulbs. What brand are you using?

NgoRX8 09-05-2007 06:41 PM

it happened to one side while i was using v-led bulbs. i didn't feel like spending more cash on it to take a chance so i went with regular incandescents. not sure if it's the heat or cuz of voltage flux.

Kris 09-08-2007 01:12 PM

They were V-LED

All of my bulbs are V-LED I changed my rears as well to the 7440 wedge LED's Damn there bright. I will post pics. I changed all the bulbs in the car as well.

I had a set of LED's go out on me but then I purchased a setup from the local Japanese marketplace which had a relatively large heat sink and it seems to keep them stable now...but I also have a voltage stabilizer so that may be it but either way they've been working well for quite some time now.

I don't understand why LED produces so much heat when it uses so little energy to power them. I had an LED on for about an hour and it was still cool to the touch.

Aipex8 09-10-2007 03:05 PM

LEDs don't produce much heat, what can damage the LEDs is ambient heat from the engine or halogen bulbs that are too close. I just don't think the corner bulbs are close enough to a heat source to do them any harm.

Rotary Rasp 09-10-2007 03:17 PM

The leds you guys are talking about don't make much heat, if any. More powerful 1, 3, and 5 watt leds make tons of heat. If proper heat sinks aren't used, they'll get so hot that they'll melt.

Ok guys heres my sorry attempt at some type of Photography Sorry I will try and get better pics. The interior lights are real nice, when I unlock the doors or open them, the entire interior lights up a real subtle white color. Its real nice. Sorry I didnt have anyone to put the car in reverse to show the reverse indicators but I will get someone to and post some pics. The Dome light is a 12 LED Flux type festoon. all other bulbs are the 5 LED Refractors. all LED from V-LED.

the headlight array photo is quite nice

Did you also replace your fog lights with LEDs?

If so which ones and was it hard?

Nopstnz 09-18-2007 03:33 PM

I've had 194 wedge based in my corners, courtesy, and map lights for over a year and have not had one problem. Also have an led dome light with not one problem
