Side Aero Flare Installation

How hard is it to install the side aero flares? With the rebate from Mazda going on I want to get the flares and install them if its not to difficult. I am not mechanically inclined but if they're as easy as the splash guards I can handle that.

Ordered mine from mazda last week.
I'll post Pix of my adventure this week >(*!^)<

PS:
where did you buy your red interior LED lights
and what are thier model numbers?

Good luck with the install. I'm curious to see how it goes.

I don't know about the aero flares, but I just got finished installing the ms sides, and it was a bitch. I'm sure the side aero flares should be a lot easier. Won't look as pimp though :D

RX8-MD

I ordered the lights from autoillumination.com. It should be mentioned in some past threads. I used the 194 wide oval LED's for the doors and 1 31mm for the dome light. I think it was a total for $11 -12 to do it. I need to order 2 more 194's for the map lights. I didn't change those but I like the red look now so that will be next after the other add ons. :D

im ready to sell mine
i want ms sides.:)

I had mine installed by dealer, I bought them and brought them home for my husband to install. He took one look at the instructions and said to me, "No way in hell am I going to drill into your car". So lucky for me, one of the techs at the dealer is a friend and he is the only one that works on my car when I bring it in and he did it.

I really like them, and with the dealer doing it, it's covered for any problems.

KEL RX8 , your car looks good, are those after market wheels???

Mugatu 08-24-2004 08:19 PM

You need to drill holes on both sides of the car, but the instructions that come with the flares are pretty good about how to do it...as they provide a guide on paper that show precisely where to drill. The whole installation took me 2 hours, and that was taking my time.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but does anyone have the instructions for this? I bought mine from someone else who had them factory installed so instructions were not available.

i'm also sorry to resurrect this old old thread, but does anyone have the instructions in a pdf or a jpg format???

You don't need to drill into your car, although some of the mounting points say to do so. I've installed on a few cars, even my own. It's very secure.

I would advise using the template. If I can do it, anyone here with moderately steady hands should be able to do it. I've never worked on a car's body before and mine turned out great. Only one that I was not able to drill was the rear wheel well but I'll take care of that in the spring seeing as the 3 clips alongside the car are holding it up. The adhesive is nothing impressive so I wouldn't trust it without the clips in the drilled holes holding it on.

You don't need instructions or templates....

I did it by eyeball and when I checked inside the bumper to see what the hole looked like, I saw that there are GUIDEMARKS inside! (of course, not where MY holes lined up! Doh!)

So just look inside and drill a pilot hole thru the guidemark, then finish your cutting on the outside, for a perfect fit.

I was referring to the side aero flares, and yes inside the front bumper there is a cross with a small circle where you drill for the front air dam install. This thread is abou the Side Aero Flare installation however. Read the OP.

damn, i was actually about to do it but when i looked at the instructions, i found out that i didnt have the templates, so i decided to give it up for now. I think a pictured DIY will help calm me down.

nuke0907 01-11-2009 10:57 AM

you can do it without drilling. just make sure the tape holds.

and pray the wind doesn't get underneath the flare. Last thing you need is it flying off. The drilling seems nerve racking but as long as you do it with common sense you'll be fine. if you can't find a template just use paper and double sided tape. make a cross and line that up with the hold on the side flare. use the double sided tape on both sides of the paper and then slide the flare onto the side of the car using the black plastic clips on the bottom. You press it against the side of the car and tape the paper to the car when it lines up. Pull the aero flare off (leaving the paper template on the side of the car). Mark the center of the holes and drill. attach the plastic clips and they'll snap right in. You'll need a certain size of drilling bit. But my suggestion is to start small and work your way up from there until the clips seem as though they can snap in with some pressure.

I was refering to the rest of the kit - the REAR aero flares.
Marks are inside the back bumper.

Ahhh gotcha, haven't installed those two yet but I do have the rear aeros at home waiting to put them on. Haven't taken off the rear bumper before, any pointers on where the mount points are for that?

StealthTL 01-12-2009 04:28 AM

No need to take the bumper off, a quick look up inside by the muffler will show where to drill.
