Rotary Accents Replaced Under Warranty?

So I finally took my 8 in yesterday to finally get the appearence pkg installed( I've had it since I bought the car but wasn't yet installed) I get a call back that it was done but they want me to bring it back on Tuesday next week to re-paint the air dam. Why? well it looks as though they only used one coat of paint. He stated that in the sunlight it looks like a thin coat of black, not multiple coats like it should be. Then they tell me that they are going to replace the rotary accent package under warranty. Why? they didn't tell me. They stated that it was the decision of Mazda N.A. I'm stumped. They were in excellent shape already. Anyone here have a guess?

Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you don't mind, could you answer a question for me tigger.

I too am looking to put certain appearence packages on my rx8. I want to order the front air dam, rear aero flares and the oem spoiler. Did you purchase everything seperatly online or from a dealer and if so how much did this run you. Did everything come painted or did you have to go and get them painted. Also, how much is your dealer charging you to install it?

Reason for why I'm asking is because I want to put the stock front air dam on with mazdaspeed side skirts, stock rear areo and stock spoiler and I'm trying to get #1 do they come factory painted and #2 how much installation will cost.

Thanks and good luck with your problem!

I purchased the front air dam and the front and rear splash guards. I did not get the aero flares, as I'm hoping in the future to get side skirts from another source.

I got these parts from the local Mazda dealer where I purchased my car from. If you order Mazda parts and have them installed by a authorized Mazda dealer than they are usually covered under the new car warranty. If not then it's 12 mo or 12,000 miles.

The parts have been sitting at the Mazda dealer since October. If you order from Mazda they do come already painted in the stock colors. In my case the air dam looks ok except all small portion in the center(looks like it was missed by paint sprayer) They want me to come back to get it re-painted next week. $460 front air dam, $95 front splash guard,$80 rear splash guard.
labor was $89hr. and it took 3hrs. total was roughly $627.00. the only reason I got the splash guards was just to protect the paint until I decide which side skirts I want.

I'm guessing that they will need to put a new rotory piece on after they paint as they will need to remove the existing one. I believe these are attached by 2-sided tape...and it may be too difficult to reattach the existing one...just my guess.

That was my guess but they want to replace the rear one as well. I had no work done to the rear. Makes me wonder why both? The service advisor was out today so I won't really know til Monday.

Maybe they just get two per order and figure they might as well strap that one on there too while they're at it?

I could be wrong, but I believe that it is pretty common practice for dealerships to submit frivolous warranty claims. It's more $$ in their pockets. Anytime they can replace a part under warranty and pass it off, they will more than likely do it. The rotary accents should be reusable.
