Rear tire rubbing on rear bumper of veilside

Anyone have this problem i am running wheels 18x9.5 +30offset and tires 265/35 all around my camber is -1.6...when i go over dips and certain bumps my rear tire hits a piece of the rear bumper where its held by the bolt over the tire....ill try to take a picture later....any suggestions other than changing tires???

Yea trim that tab off until you don't rub on it anymore. Common problem

its the rear bumper that its hitting and the performance shop that mounted my wheels also rolled the fenders as well as shave off some of the piece of the rear bumper(shown in the pics)...but still its rubbing....i am thinking of raising the car and stiffing the suspension maybe that will help??

Yea I have the same problem as does EVERYONE who runs decently aggressive wheel/tire setups.

laythor 04-20-2011 06:35 PM

"aggressive" is just another way of saying "cosmetically pleasing but practically silly"

:)

kingsina420 04-20-2011 06:50 PM

^^^true man...so what should i do let them shave some more and run more negative camber? if they do shave more they r going to get closer to the bolt that is holding the bumper and idk if that is safe

J8635621 04-20-2011 06:50 PM

Practically silly? I don't get your point.

J8635621 04-20-2011 06:52 PM

To do it "right", you cut that tab all the way off and relocate the attachment point to somewhere else. If you just cut it off, the end of the bumper will push in and out but won't sag down. It's up to you. Shouldn't need more camber if you get rid of the tab.

J8635621 04-20-2011 06:57 PM

Not sure you'd have to take the tab completely off. You can get a metal file or hack saw and cut off the tab until close to the bolt to see if it helps.

ill see what my guy at the body shop says...because the rear bumper is fiberglass so idk if it will be the same process as the stock one

J8635621 04-20-2011 07:08 PM

It's been done. Whether your guy chooses to do it or not, it's possible.

kingsina420 04-20-2011 07:15 PM

alryt thanx alot J cuz i really dont know much bout body work like that but ill let him know

my point for aggressive fitment is this:

In my opinion only (and these are your cars and if you like then that is all that matters) when people push aggressive fitment they turn a car that is super fun and responsive to drive into something that is the opposite.

Does aggressive fitment look good, yeah it does. But there's a point you reach when the car looks good standing still and driving it becomes a chore. The suspension is super stiff to keep you from tearing up the fenderliners, the tires are so stretched to fit that grip has become a third or fourth tier concern, you ass hates you after the super harsh ride it endures after even 20 mins in the car.

That's what i mean by cosmetically pleasing.. but in practical application, silly.

Once again, just my opinion and to the guys who push the boundaries with wheel fitment I tip my cap to your dedication.

A skinny guy goes to prison. On arrival he is told he is going to share a prison cell with another inmate because of over crowding. He is escorted through the institution by a guard and upon reaching his prison cell is violently thrown in it. He looks around the room and sees his cell mate for the first time. By the look of this guy he had been in prison for along time, is covered in tattoos and is massively built. The tattooed giant walks right up to his new roommate, looks down and says, "We are going to play house! Do you want to be the mother or the father?" The skinny man shutters a little and trembles out the words, "I woa want to be the father.” The giant replies back quickly, “Good!!! Now come here and suck mommas' dick!

My car is still super fun and responsive. I have my coilovers on soft so it isn't a harsh ride. It isn't a chore to drive my car, but I do pay attention to the road more. Definitely retarded. I may have lost a few tenths on the race track, but seeing as I have spent 0% of my time there it isn't really a loss in my book. Definitely looks a lot better to me. My wheels are not beyond the fender and I'm not running crazy camber. My car is terrible.
