Yeah I didn’t check all the links

Here’s an idea; 2.5” flanged Y-pipe with dual slip-fit extended elbows for the tips and then insert a pair of 2.5” spiral baffles ($235/pair 16 Ga. T304 stainless) inserted on each outlet side of the y-pipe, some hangers, maybe tip ends if you’re particular

I imagine the best "gain" you could get would be getting the lightest straight pipe you could and slap it on.

"Best" is subjective and it depends on the individual's requirements or needs.
After reading some more info & picking some brains, I'm thinking Racing Beat.
Performance is nice, but I don't want anything too loud either.
I currently have a BHR midpipe with stock exhaust and I like the sound.
From what I've gathered so far, RB and Borla both have reputations of nice, deep tones, with no rasp or drone.
Both are SS (which makes them heavy).
I like Borla's larger radius single inlet and muffler concept, but I'm not too keen on the hangers being attached to the tailpipes

The Racing Beat has a Y dual inlet with short 90° radius and 2 mufflers, but I like the hangars being welded directly to the mufflers.

The price difference with the Borla being a couple hundred dollars more swings my opinion to RB.

Fixed that for you ... and not necessarily anything more than just lighter depending on what it’s being compared too.

Since I didn’t buy mine until 4/2005 I probably wasn’t the first person to try and go straight dump, but after the piercing ring drilling a hole straight into the core of my brain stopped, I came to my senses and figured a 3 lbs muffler was no bfd for the relief. It was still fairly loud inside the cabin with the windows up, but at least car alarms don’t go off when you drive by. I would try use an auger-style insert in the pipe now instead though, not sure if just one single rather than a dual auger/tip pair would be enough though

The dual auger/pipe idea I threw out in the earlier post above will be tested soon enough

. ...

I like the idea, and I'm sure it would be less expensive, but I want a single bolt on component and not several pieces.
I don't enjoy working on the ground under a car as much as when I was younger, it's getting harder for me physically, so the faster I can get it done is better in my case, even if it is more expensive.

Because I took the factory muffler pipe and adapted it in my garage by specifying and pre-purchasing the slip-on & clamp component parts to make sure it fit/could be adjusted if necessary. If you want to pay 2x-3x more for that ideal which has no impact other that it can be disassembled and ship easily ... even then $50 at the muffler shop and it could be welded solid instead. Seem to recall about 7 or 8 lbs total weight.

It was just a Stock class racing muffler setup. Fwiw the factory muffler feed pipe is about as light as you’ll get without a custom 20 Ga pipe setup. I seem to recall it’s 65mm OD (approx. 2.5”). Try to re-use it for a custom muffler setup unless you want a larger 3” pipe, not really needed except for racing though.
