Well I got a little more than halfway done before good ole Utah rain decided to sweep in and put a stop to it for the rest of the day. But here is the progress I made today so far and I will post finished pics up when I am done. BTW, I am debating whether or not to try and leave the rotor on the hood factory gloss or just paint the entire hood, Suggestions?

Unfortunately I don't have a garage or even a car port otherwise this would have been done today.

Looks like a bitter ex vandalized it...

Shinka84 07-19-2015 10:31 AM

It's obvious by your sweet hot air intake and the plastidip that you don't give a damn, you didn't need to clarify that point.

New Yorker 07-19-2015 02:07 PM

It's your car. Do whatever you think looks good!

stickmantijuana 07-19-2015 03:38 PM

I would get that as a decal... just sayin. Right across the top of the rear windshield. Papa Smirf

Not bad really. I'm not a huge fan of plastidipped cars but I've seen much worse.

Good job.
Now ya Gatta fix the wheels.. Mabye gloss black.

I think you missed a spot.

Shinka84 07-19-2015 08:11 PM

Thanks Travis, yeah wheels are a project for another day and black is what I am going with. I was actually thinking about seeing if the mods would change my user name to Papa Smurf.

Williard 07-19-2015 08:13 PM

Send a PM to Zoom44.

He can help with that.

I'd do the whole car, the two tone is only making it look worse.

Your opinion, I like it the way it is.

When you did this do you find that you are able to easily get the dip to look uniform in all areas? I mean as in are there areas that come out uneven or thicker/tackier/glossier than others. I would be worried about it looking uniform in all areas of the dip.

My car came from Texas and the prior owner had it sitting out in the sun far too long and some of the metallic areas have faded because of it and I have thought about plastidipping the entire car to make it more uniform and even and cover up the paint chips and minor scratches and faded paint areas. But I am worried if I did it that I would have thicker areas that are either too tacky or glossy and others are not uniform.

I do need to feel the texture of plastidip as well, since I would also be hesitent of something that would pit easily from gravel roads here in Colorado. I also dislike the FLAT look of paint and wish there was a way to make this glossy! Good job on your work I might have to do this sometime.

So being as I did this with rattle can plastidip if you look hard enough you can see the imperfections, if you want a super clean look going through a professional shop who specializes in plastidip and yes they do have a clearcoat specific for plastidip as well. If you live on a gravel road, yes you are most likely going to have issues with chipping or damage to your plastidip, but that's going to be an issue with any type of auto paints.
