Paint technique terminology needed.
I am looking for the terminology and for pics of a paint technique whereby very, very light flames are painted on a car, typically a light variation of the same base color. The following pics are close to what I am talking about.
brownish Seafoamish I am particularly looking for red on red. |
ghost flames?

Thanks man. Much appretiated. Hey, do you have any paint on your car? (besides what came with it.) I have a miss-matched hood that I have to get repainted. i am getting my MS bumper in next week and going to send the car for paint next month. Since they have to blend the hood into the fenders and the nose, I was considering something incredibly subtle, but unique. I thought some red-on-red flames that you could only see from about 20 feet would be a reasonable choice. I have seens some flames that are cool (ViceGrip) but too much, and I have seen some that are appropriately subtle (there is a blue car floating around here somewhere). But I would like to get some advice from some more experienced owners, someone that has gotten a paintjob.

a very good flame job could be pretty costly. but it you were to do it a metallic silver with a translucent candy red overlay flame on a red car would be pretty sick.

Sorry to be dense, but what exactly would that look like? Have any examples?
Oh, and as far as cost, it looks like I am going to get reamed anyway. I havent found any quotes close to a grand. Figure I might as well do it up. |
this is powder coated because it is an intake manifold but its the same idea silver metalic base and a translucent top coat...

on average a good body guy should be charging for oem paint 250 for the front bumper, 250 each fender and 500 for the hood.....if done all together it should be a touch less....for additional custom work your adding hours for prep work like extra taping and masking....if you have a good body guy and your car is kept pretty clean then blending the fenders might be a bit much and unnecessary because of the age of the car....how far off are you on the shades?.....

If you want a good paint job (deep color, multiple layers, tricoats, minimal overspray, etc.) with ghost flames figure around $12,000-$15,000 for the entire car.
