New and old colors?
Hey, i'm in the process of searching for a new Rx8 to buy and i really like the velocity red, a straight up strong bright red color. The problem I'm having is when i go to dealerships that there is a new color for the 07s it seems. It's called a velocity red mica, its fairly similar to the VRs ive seen on the website but its got metalic sparkles
in the paint, which I'm not diggin very much. Is this a new thing with the 07s? or is it just the pictures on the website that make it seem less sparkley? And no im not mistaking the color with the new copper shinka, if thats what u were thinking. Is a velocity Mica the same as a regular VR?....im semi confused...and the ppl on the website that have a VR that have the look that i want, did they have to repaint their car to get it w/o the metalic sparkles? |
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I am 99% sure that they are the same color. When I was shopping for my 05 I noticed the metallic flake in the Velocity Red. I think its just that the pictures on here can't quite show it.

for example, i dont see any sparkles in this picture.

I guess the new Vr's come mica, cuz the older ones do not have that.
|
what does mica mean? is that what is the sparkle? and when did they stop making the original VR?
|
mica is the sparkles, I have a black 04 but for the 07 cx9's they that a black mica (sparkles). If that is the case with 07 then i guess the 04-06 were the only true VR's, hold on i'm gonna check out the mazda northamerica homepage.
edit::: yup looks like black, silver, and white are the only non-mica colors, rest of the line is Red mica, phantom blue mica, galaxy grey mica, and stormy blue mica. |
All VRs are mica all years. Mica is the metal flakes in the midcoat. They are visible only from close and in direct sun light. You can't see it in pictures.
|
depends on the lighting of pictures. yes all VR's have mica. but apparently, Missyk's car seems to have more flakes in it than other VRs. lol
|
ok, so its always been that way...if i were to buy a 07 VR mica and get a body kit within a year, then go to a vendor and buy a liter of VR paint to use on the body kit, it WILL most likely match?
|
Matching depends on how thick you spray the midcoat. Thicker = darker. Its not that simple, but is doable.
