Any reason to get the 4 or 6 Vled bulbs for parking/licence plate lights instead of the single led bulb? Is the single bulb still brighter than stock?

well, after about 3.5 years it looks like one of my turn signals finally went out.
I'm running a set of the old 2 V-LEDS AMBER 48 SMT TURN SIGNAL BULBS 7443 7440

obviously things have changed since then so those are no longer available.
thoughts on HIGH-VIS AMBER 21 LED 7443 7440 STANDARD BASE | 1 PAIR ?
not sure what I think of the look of the bulb since it doesn't have LED's in the center portion but is anyone running them?

also, any more 8club discount codes?

I am definately going to get V-LEDs the next time around. I don't mean to day that rotaryfx has bad products, perhaps I just got a doozie. I purchased a set of LED side marker lights from them about 4 months ago and they worked good at first, but now they are both flickering like crazy. Now they both strobe like police lights whenever I turn them on, meaning that they are already on their way out. I have heard nothing but good things about V-LEDs so you can bet your bottom dollar that my replacement LED side marker lights will be from you guys!

Has anyone tried these new LED bulbs too? They are suppose to be headlight HID replacements.

up front I am running the AMBER PLATINUM 21 LED BLINKER TURN SIGNAL BULBS 7443 7444 7440 7443NA | 1 PAIR and in back i am running the RED PLATINUM 21 LED TURN SIGNAL BRAKE LIGHT BULBS 7443 7444 7440 | 1 PAIR
They are both plenty bright in my opinion and i absolutely love them however if they had the high-vis option when i ordered mine i probably would have bought them just becasuse!

now for my reverse lights i am running the 6K WHITE HIGH OUTPUT 21 LED BACK-UP LIGHT 7440 1000LM | 1 PAIR which are the brightest thing i have seen in my life for reverse lights and well worth the extra 15 bucks compared to the regular 21 LED reverse lights

So i have no intention of reading the entire thing, for a possible answer...

I want to have my footwell lights to come on in 3 different scenarios.

1) On with the courtesy lights.

2) On with the ignition.

3) On a switch (the ricer in me, sue me, lol)

would i run into any issues running power wires from 3 places to one common power? since the power from each source originates from the place (battery). in my though process it would be the same as 2 wires twisted together at the ends, in place of a single heavier gauge wire.

does anything stay on as long as the key is in the ignition? basically something that still has power when i turn the key to the off position, but power stops when the key is finally pulled out.

I am currently looking to buy some V-LED's for my 8 and am looking to go for a uniform 6k white look all around. Currently I am planning on ordering:

For the side markers once it is back in stock:
6K WHITE 4 LED HIGH POWER FLANK BULBS 194 168 158 160LM | 1 PAIR

For the parking lights:
6K WHITE 4 LED HIGH POWER BULBS 194 168 158 160LM | 1 PAIR

And I am debating whether or not to get:
6K WHITE 10 LED DRL/FOG LIGHT BULBS H11 H16 | 1 PAIR
or
VX3 H11 H8 H9 H16 2800LM LED HEADLIGHT FOG LIGHT | 1 PAIR - Fog Lights - Shop Bulb Type
for the fog lights. The latter is over twice the cost and I'm not sure whether or not it would even be worth it? Mostly looking for appearance of the fogs not really the brightest light output.

Any advice/feedback?

Turn signal/parking light

OP, You say you've done custom wiring for your turn signals. If you could elaborate for me I would like to know how you rewired your turn Signals to be parking lights as well as blinkers with the switchback LED bulb, I'm not sure if your still active or not, if not could anyone direct me to a rewire thread? Or just give me advice on how to attempt this rewire? Thanks

I'm not sure if anyone cares any more, but I am still alive, I am still driving my 8, and I am still doing LED mods (about the only modding I'm still doing on this old car!). I just pre-ordered LED headlight bulbs to replace the HIDs. Yes, LED tech is at HID headlight brightness now. I'll be updating the sticky with info on that conversion soon.

Definitely interested in seeing the LED headlights! Glad to see you still have the car and taking care of it.

glad to hear you've still got the car and are still tinkering with LED's.

yeah, it's amazing how quickly LED's have surpassed HID's as the preferred method for lights on newer cars. All the new cars I'm shopping these days (to replace my DD) have LED headlights.
would really be interested in seeing how yours come out.

This is going to be just a straight bulb swap, although going from HID it's not directly plug and play and I'll have to do some custom wiring (you don't connect the LED bulb to the HID ballast, so you have to splice in before it).

Yeah, I was taking a peak at the Toyota 86 a couple weeks back and it's all LED front and rear... I would have no lighting mods to do!

So I ended up getting two pairs of VLEDS Micro bulbs (head and fog lights) and got them installed. I'll try to get pictures this weekend, but as LEDs get brighter than HIDs, it's increasingly difficult to get pictures.

First impressions:

The light output is totally even, crisp and very bright. I was using Morimoto XB HID bulbs which are pretty high quality and the LEDs are maybe 10-20% brighter (I didn't do a ton of testing with one of each installed). The 6000K color matches my parking 194 and the V3 Tritons that I'm using for DRLs very well. My previous high end LED fog lights (SMZs - no longer sold) were 6000K, but appeared a bit whiter and closer to 5000K, so this is good news. It all looks very modern from a distance... like a Tesla or something. Love it! VLEDS also makes their H11 and H9 bulbs interchangeable, so those old SMZ are now my high beams. I'm now officially fully LED converted... like everything!

A few quick notes:

-HID to LED conversion is a bit complex and permanent. The D2S kit comes with a pass-through kit that is supposed to allow you to go through the dust cap. It unfortunately requires the driver and quite a bit of cable to remain inside the headlight housing. It won't fit. I ended up cutting large square holes in the caps so the driver could be outside the housing, then taped up the hole with 3M double sided and duct tape (been raining non-stop and no condensation inside, so I think it's good). The bulb itself is an amazing design, very easy to install and fits easily within the housing.

-The stock HID cable and socket that connects to the ballast (big metal socket and cloth sheathed cable) would require baking the headlights and taking apart to actually remove, so I was forced to cut the cable to remove the D2S socket. That makes this install permanent. I will have to buy new housings if I want to go back to HID.

-A few technical details on the HID to LED conversion: the power you are tapping into is in the wiring harness running to the headlight. Cut the sheath and find the violet/white wire on the driver side and the black/white wire on the passenger side (the ground is black on both sides). Cut the power wire (you don't want the ballast powering up any more) and connect it to the power for the LED. Tap into the ground as the same ground is used for parking, signal, high beam too, so you don't want that one cut.

-For halogen headlight people, this is a no-brainer. Maybe a bit more expensive than ebay HID kits, but it will be much easier to install, brighter, and more reliable.

-The fog light bulb install is much easier. The only issue there is that the bulb sits at a 45° angle because of how the sockets on the housing are. VLEDS recommends not having the bulb sit at 45°. They are adjustable, BUT (and this is going to be hard to explain) one of the 45° adjustment point allows you to take the collar off all together so you can't use that notch. The end result is that you can't adjust both to sit in the housings in the same position (either vertical or horizontal). You can have one vertical and one horizontal (asymmetric) or both at 45°. I chose both at 45°. I don't think it's as big of a deal with the fogs.

TL;DR: HID to LED is hard but worth it. Halogen to LED install should be easy. Fog light install is easy (bulbs sit at 45° but does't matter). Micro bulbs are amazing and highly recommended whether you currently have HID or halogen.
