Mazdaspeed Body Kit Install Cost

i'm looking to get the entire kit minus wing and was wondering how much i would be looking at spending? for those of you that had the dealership install it, how much did they charge?

thanks for your help.

they come painted i believe, and their OEM spec urethene, so its just like installing a stock bumper. meaning its an easy DIY

I'd have to say its ABS plastic, the same material used in the 8's OEM bumper.

The front bumper and sideskirts would be relatively easy to do youself but the rear skirt needs cutting of the stock rear mesh bumper so i wouldnt recommend doing that yourself.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

Actually the MS stuff is made out of a resin called MettonŽ liquid molding material.

Pretty cool stuff -- do a Google on it if you are interested in the engineering properties.

If you have seen the real MS stuff you will realize it is top quality all around -- design, materials, fit and finish.

unfortunately there is a design flaw... you have to modify your rear bumper. I thought the rear factory valence was removable... its not. I might not want to install the piece because of this issue. The MazdaSpeed rear valence is not a direct cover.

thanks for the replies, but not exactly the answers i was looking for...basically:

how much would i be looking to spend if i had a dealer install the kit, assuming i already had the parts on hand? (labor charges)

kgunny 03-18-2004 08:59 AM

It took my dealership about 8 hours. They charge $99/hr in Manhattan for labor.

Everyone is saying just install it yourself and save the money.
Screw the dealership--99 bucks an hour seems like alot.
I would have a custom paint and bodyshop install the kit.
It shouldn't be more than a few hundred and thats only because you have to chop the back bumper.

right now, i'm thinking of installing the front and side skirts, then let some body shop do the rear...if they can get it to me the same day...

thanks for the price kgunny..

kgunny.

I am in Manhattan as well- I sent you a PM- I'd love to see the MS kit installed- I have the 3M material on mine- you may want to see it- great for the city.

I just got my MS sideskirts in the mail... installation doesn't look tooo bad, does require some drilling and hacking though

well, you have to take the stone shield off the bottom, cut it up into a few pieces. Then you use the templates they give you to drill 3 holes in the side of the car for mounting. It should then snap into place and be secured with the tape.

The sideskirts are actually fairly straight forward, i also got he front air dam and factory appearance package rear which seem a bit more complicated a require removing the bumpers entirely and drilling and stuff...

pretty much once you start, there is no going back because of the drilling :o

Here's a picture I found in the gallery page showing how much was chopped off the stock bumper to have the MS rear diffuser fit.

wow, i always thought the MS rear was the whole bumper that you take the stock one off and replace it with the MS rear
