Ings frp bodykit

I just got my INGS frp bodykit and its not what Ive expected,,,, the material is so thin and it looks so wavy even after it got painted  ... Does anyone know how to get rid the wavy looks? Thanks

RXE16T 09-10-2004 01:58 AM

The wavy look has to do with the preparation of the kit prior to painting.
Unfortunately with fibreglass, this is an inherent design flaw with the materials used.
Only meticulously sanding the product with very fine wet/dry sandpaper prior to primering and painting will reduce their appearance.

FIBERGLASS SUCKS. why didnt yu get hybrid aero. urethane is always better

Outlaws eXtreme 09-10-2004 02:58 AM

The Hybrid aero is great... very bendable, yet firm. Almost like the stock bumper material. For a few hundred more, you could have gotten the Fiberglass. But now that you have it, you can get a good bodyshop to prep it for you to make it as firm as possible without the typical fiberglass flexes.

Is hybrid aero just a conglomeration of urethane and fiberglass? If it is, it must be very strong, yet flexible. I wonder how the process is done.

That's odd that INGS+ would have such a poor-quality FRP product that you described. Do you think they just used the chopper gun?

First when I saw the bodykit i thought could it be a copied then I checked the box and badge and its all original.... yeah im disappointed with the quality of the product... especially when you already paid a lot of money for it....

Outlaws eXtreme 09-10-2004 05:10 AM

Send it back and get the Hybrid Aero... that one is great. :P

orbist 09-10-2004 08:41 AM

Hybrid was perfect out the box for me, needed a bit of sanding round the edges but even the bodyshop commented on how good it was and how little prep they had to do on it.

Given the lead times on the INGs stuff you may want to just spend a day sanding and preping the kit you have, but for anyone else thinking about this kit, the Hybrid is worth every extra penny.

Is INGS+ the only bodykit manufacturer to offer hybrid aero?

Japan8 09-11-2004 11:30 AM

Yes, only INGS makes hybrid aero as it is their invention.

The difference as I understand it is in the resin. Hybrid aero makes use of a type of urethane for the fiberglass resin. Thus it is much more flexible than fiberglass, but stronger than urethane... no worries about sagging. On pg 54 of HyperREV you can see pics of two guys twisting a FRP (fiberglass) bumper and a hybrid bumper. The FRP one hardly bends at all and close up pics show many cracks. The hybrid bumper was wrung like a rag and shows what looks like no damage in the pic.

Dude... I agree with everyone else's sentiment... you should have gotten the hybrid. Often you only get what you pay for...so it's worth the extra little bit.

I believe in the entire industry, Ings+1's hybrid aero is the strongest material there is. I haven't seen anything stronger or more durable then Ings+1's hybrid aero. It kinda amazes me to see so many big companies(Bomex, Buddy Club, Veilside) use Fiberglass.

shelleys_man_06 09-11-2004 03:23 PM

Don't you love composites? :D

Wouldn't hybrid aero be heavy? Carbon fiber still rules the day, despite being expensive as hell.

orbist 09-11-2004 03:36 PM

The Hybrid Aero front, despite being bigger and chunkier was lighter than the stock bumper by a long way, ok so maybe not as light as CF, but without the fog lights, the huge lump of plastic for the number plate mounting and the headlamp washer jets etc will have reduce the weight by a fair bit!

20sin 09-12-2004 06:34 AM

Yesterday my workshop told me that my bodykit is actually a hybrid aero....sorry about the mistake guys...

shelleys_man_06 09-12-2004 09:12 AM

So now hybrid aero sucks?

SuPerHerO::tOnY 09-12-2004 04:29 PM

i think this guy is going to be wrong again. as he was just before

robertdot 09-12-2004 07:23 PM

Orbist got it, and he liked it. I've seen pictures of his pieces, so I trust his word first. If anyone wants to argue against what obrist says, I need to see pictures.

VelociRedBeast 09-12-2004 07:31 PM

pics?

Outlaws eXtreme 09-12-2004 07:35 PM

I think he meant the guy that thought you bought the Fiberglass kit is wrong again... I'm not sure how he could mistaken the Hybrid Aero with the Fiberglass... one flexes, one doesn't. Hmmm...
