Help! Smokey headlights and taillights?

I have seen rx8's with a smokey cover for the headlights and tail lights.
How do I do this?

E-bay...I got mine on there. It is just pre-cut window film, but seems a little heavier thickness. I did the headlights and foglights. No issues so far, except a few little scratches. If you don't have experience, hire a good sign installer to stretch the film.

Its fairly easy to do the front headlights and fogs... but the tailights are a B@#%$! to put on (i tried then gave up and ended spraying them myself) ... good luck

looks good, how much was the paint? I was gonna spray the rear lights with the vht night shade but I don't feel like paying $25 per can...

Thanks. You actually only need one can if you're gonna use the VHT Niteshades... but the ones i used were the Tamaya ones for model cars and sprayed clearcoat, wetsanded and polished them. VHT niteshades is $20 a can here at a local tint shop... the tamiya cans are small and i bought 4... which ended up being around $20 too... ;)

hey, what do you think is better and lasts longer? the vht spray or stretching film over it?

Lil_Gato 03-19-2008 07:08 PM

i did the film process, and am thinking about seriously attempting the spray, because my film is peeling up on the edges. not much a great "did it myselfer".
bought my tint film from lamin-x... maybe the ebay stuff is better?

hey, i had a question about the tint you guys used for the headlights...does it interfere with the nice cutoff the projectors/hids give? i actually had previously baked apart my headlights and used a dremel on the metal plate inside to make my cutoff cleaner and more colorful and dont want to lose the look..

oh and if anyone wants to tint their tails red, you can use the Metalcast style red paint that you can find at any autozone/advanced auto. its what i used and i love the look.

if you smoke your headlights using a regular black paint (not too dark), the headlights will not lose the cutoff your talking about, but they will lose a little bit of distance, even when adjusted to the right height. i just adjusted them up myself. no biggie. :)

i meant with a film, i have a friend who owns a vinyl shop and i was thinking of getting him to cut me some pieces of transparent yellow. i can order 3000k hid bulbs but i figured i might try cheap vinyl to see how it looks before spending $80 plus on bulbs. thanks for the info though, i think ill give it a shot.

With the housing already being blacked-out, I really don't see why one would want to smoke the headlights. The tails are another story, I actually think something along the lines of the Ducks-Garden combo lights would be kinda neat.
