Help?! Confused of what these buttons are for

I bought an Rx-8 a few months ago and was thinking of adding Aero Side flares. The problem is that I don't know what these "button" like things under where they're supposed to fit under are.. also there's like a "rectangular box" in front of the rear wheels? What would these be used for? Any help is appreciated!
Here's a link to photobucket to see what I'm talking about.

The "buttons" are either drains or places where the frames are handled during the manufacturing process. In any case it doesn't matter, the Mazda aero flares are engineered to not interfere with them. The instructions for installing the flares actually require you to cut away some of that heavy plastic strip along the bottom of the car.

As for the plastic rectangle on the fender, the flares also don't touch this part, but it's there to protect the paint on the fender from rock chips. Anything kicked up by the front wheels risks striking that area, and the plastic is stronger than paint. Keep it there.

I see.. Thanks for the help Loki! If you check the third link image 2155, some of the heavier plastic is already cut off? Is this why the drains are visible? I assume that my car had the aero flares installed but maybe they were removed?
