Headlights clouding

Just wondering if many of you have had issues with the headlights clouding on the outside? Do any of you use any products regularly to prevent this from occurring? And anyone have any experience with headlight restoration kits? From my research, it seems that they work ok but the benefits only last a few months...

Use toothpaste(the plain white paste) and a buffer. Gets rid of the yellow hazing and some minor rock chips, after its all done use some wax or the plastic protective wax. Oh and you may want to put some blue painters tape on the cars paint around the lights and watch out for the over spray. If hazing returns in a few days hit it again and use more wax.

I've done this to a few vehicles already and its lasted well over a year and the one car never gets washed so its lasts.

I use meguiars plastx. I apply and buff it off by hand every 4-6 months. Keeps them looking like new. If your lights are in really bad shape you may need to use a buffer.

My headlights were originally pretty bad (yellow, hazing, etc.) I used the 3M Headlight Restoration Kit back in August and the headlights are still looking extremely clear.

i used the 3m kit a year ago (I'm a 2004) after dicking around with a couple other kits and haven't had to touch them since.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I'm happy to hear the products have a little more longevity to them than I had read. It seems like everyone is getting at least 6 months out of any given product :).

One last thing - is there kind of film you can place over the headlights to prevent this damage from occurring at all? If there is, I'd want something that looks clean. Thanks again!
