HD lip

Those of you who have a Speed6 may know of this already. I haven't seen anyone try this on an 8 yet so here it is.

I recently installed MS sideskirts on my wife's car. I really like them (and so does she!), but with the factory front spoiler there is a bit of a disconnect in the flow from front to rear due to the gunmetal extension of the sideskirts. I have already done the HD lip to my Speed6 so thought I'd give it a try on her car.

The HD lip is a piece of rubber meant for sealing the bottom of a garage door. So called because you can buy it at Home Depot or any other home improvement store. There are two ways to install it, with a straight edge or with a vertical lip hanging down. I have chosen to use the straight edge. What you do is clean all surfaces with isopropyl alcohol. I then use a 3M adhesive accelerant pad (available at auto parts stores) to promote good adhesion. The apply two strips of 3M double-sided tape for auto applications. Start on one side and attach the lip. Due to the curvature of the front spoiler I notched the back side of the lip so it would line up properly. Just work your way around and stick the rubber onto the bottom of the spoiler.

I realize this isn't everyone's cup of tea, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, if you are a troll hater then **** off.

nice! i was thinking of doing this, because it protects the lip/bumper if you scrape. i saw this on ebay, but if i could get it at homedepot then awsome. what it is called?

Gee, and here I thought I was being innovative! In any event maybe this will give someone new info.

The lip doesn't really protect from scraping. The lower edge of your bumper will still be the same height. It just gives you some extension to the bumper or spoiler edge.

Here is a picture of what I bought. Last time I bought it the manufacturer was Frost King, this is a new mfg. You will find it in the weatherstripping section of your local home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's etc). If you look at the package you will see there are two different profiles on the rubber that you can use. Good luck to all!

Do this as an interim measure, then make the ones you want to.

Doesn't look too bad actually.. Your car definitely needs a MS rear or atleast rear aero flares though! Looks awkward stock like that.

I'm waiting on a set of the rear aero flares. First set I received had some very noticeable paint runs.

Don't laugh, some early ground effects race cars used wood strips on their skirts to seal the sides to the road and provide a cheap surface that could wear away.

Wood panels are still mandatory on f1 cars to avoid sparks
