Got oversprayed need advice
 

My work..... was painting something in a makeshift tent in the corner of the parking lot I park in about 60 feet from my car.
They got red overspray all over my car...
Unfortuneately it is very dusty where I work, near a airport.. So I thought my car was just dirty and did not realise it was overspray for a few days untilI went to clean my windows while fueling up this morning. So it also sat in 90+ degree sun all day for 3 days baking on...

I washed it twice as soon as aI got home and then used a clay bar on 2'x2' section. The attached pic is of that clay bar after using on that section.

First off do you guys think the clay bar is going do the job all the way?
I am trying to get them to pay for it to be done prefessionally... but getting no response about it yet. I also dont want to let the overspray stay on any longer than I have to, and if I wait for them to decide will be a week or more...

I have done some painting and have the skills to do what might need to be done. But I have never had to deal with overspray issues like this... I always prepped my work properly and was considerate of others. Also I only did fresh paint, I never did repairs or paint on top of old paint etc, worried how the aged paint will be effected by the overspray.
They were using 1 shot paint I think.
I am mostly concerned with not doing something or using a product that is going to make it worse.

Make them pay for it! They should be responsible for this anyways!

Trust me I am trying. Have been emailing the owner and VPs since I got home about it. They of course dont return emails or answer their cells after hours or on weekends.

Does anybody know a good professional mobile detailer in my area?

gets rid of spray paint quite easy and well. Might be worth a shot?

claybar should get it off.
if not you could even use paint thinner with a nice cloth and just give the trouble spots a quick wipe. i know people will freak out when you say put paint thinner on your car. but I've used it many times on cars. if you're worried about it then test it in a little section where you can't see it.

paint thinner can easily eat off your clear coat making the paint look dull instead of shiny.

Use a sponge sander from walmart get around 2000 grit then mix a bucket of dish soap and warm water and dip the sponge and lightly sand everywhere that has overspray. After its all off clean it all real good and use a buffing compound and a highspeed buffer will look brand new bro.

BTW Never use paint thinner anywhere near your car, Lol will tear the clear to shit.

I've used clay to get clearcoat overspray off my car. Get a GOOD clay like Clay Magic (crap clay won't work very well) and be prepared to spend several hours claying it.

If it's really baked in, get some rubbing compound and a random-orbital buffer like the Porter cable and go to town. Be careful with non-random orbitals as you can really damage your paint. Polish and wax after you're done.

I had that mothers clay bar from the pic. I did most of it last night...
I need to buy new pad for my buffer. I have a non-random orbital 7" milwake polisher. I do know how to use it dont worry :) The pads I have are just a bit used up.
I was just trying to avoid doing it, since I have some back issues lately and not very fun work to do with a bum back.
Anyone know of a body shop supply store in LA open Saturdays?

I have done clay bar on entire car (it was really stubborn...). Borrowed a random orbital buffer and used it to hit the whole thing with Scratch-x.
Thats most of the really hard work done at least.
Now I'm just hitting it with 2 or 3 coats of NXT wax. And the trim pieces will be easy yay for plastic that responds well to chemistry :)

I'll be giving my boss $100 receipt for all supplies I bought and asking him to give me a extra paid day off too.

Worst part is this was supposed to be relaxing weekend... all I had planned was an oil change... that I still also have to do. LOL

Changed plan. 1 coat NXT, then 2 coats of mothers gold carnuba wax. I read carnuba layers better than NXT which has cleaners.

Remind me next time someone else is detailing my car to tip them well.... This is hard work... :)

Yea it has been a while since I did a whole car detail full on. Shoulders are so sore LOL
Its actually looking better now than it was when I bought it. :)

Makes me wish I had the time and second vehcile so I could go nuts and wet sand the factory orange peel out and make it REALLY nice.

another tip for overspray:

If you use brake cleaner it will get rid of the over spray... just don't use to much, and make sure you wipe it off immediately... also wax after

The popup unsealed tent they were spraying in was 8 feet from a public street where cars owned by people from neighboring companies park...
Wonder how EPA and OSHA would feel about it....hmmmm
