Front and Rear bumper repaint
 

I just had 2 estimates to have my front and rear bumpers cleaned up and repainted. I have an 07 Velocity Red with the normal chips and scratches on the front bumper, with a couple of fairly good gouges, and 1 nasty gouge on the rear bumper. The estimates were $980 and $1270. I had no idea it would cost this much to fix and repaint bumpers. Both places talked about completely removing the bumper, repairing the scratches and gouges, and then fully repainting the entire bumper - both estimate sheets were pretty close on all the items outlined, just minor differences in hourly rates, and the time estimates to complete the work. Do these estimates seem reasonable?

sounds like you need to keep shopping, but thats just me....

I know this will probably sound like a red neck cheap answer, but Macco did my whole car (E36 BMW at the time) for $850, and it looked DAMN good... Keep shopping man

I actually do paint and body work. There are many variables that make this expensive, shops have an overhead so they have to keep their prices up, damage repair is another thing that can be costly just because plastic materials can be expensive and VR paint is Very expensive alone. Red is the most expensive paint to buy let alone all the mica or pearl they have to put in. Owning a shop those prices are reasonable however if you find a good painter who does work out of his garage and produces quality work, then im sure he could do both bumpers for atleast $400

You won't get much leverage out of a shops. Like Voodoo said, find someone local who is good with bodywork / paint job and he will probably be your cheapest solution.

Finally got both bumpers fixed and repainted. Found a shop in Lewisville, TX (Alex Paint and Body) that did the work for $785. Workmanship looks solid. The big savings simply came down to the amount of labor hours. The labor rate, paint supplies, etc were pretty much the same between the 4 estimates I received. Three of the four estimated almost 24 hours of labor. His came in around 12 hours. I hope the paint job holds up well.
