Electric folding mirrors?

Hi i had electric folding mirrors on my Megane which were great is there anyway to do this on my RX8?

Sure... only tricky part would be finding a mirror that will fit our bolt pattern (or close to it)
How good/comfortable are you with wiring?
A single DPDT center-off switch might be all you need to control both mirrors together... I would need to know the specs of the motor to know if a relay(s) would be involved (which it might be if controlling both mirrors with one switch).
My Hummer H2 has folding mirrors using a single switch, but it goes through a door module.
Almost anything is possible if you put your mind to it (and have the skills/experience to).
If I didn't have to buy the mirrors, I would try this on my car just to prove concept and then write you a DIY.
But honestly... if all of this is sounding foreign to you now... then I suggest you don't attempt it yourself...

Do Canadian models have this as an option? I know most of the cars in Japan do, so it's a possibility that the RX-8s there is equiped with one.

1 Attachment(s)
Thought about this some more and how I might wire this setup.
Really like it when a "unique" idea comes up around here... even though it may not be something I personally would do.
There are many ways to approach how to wire this, but here is a basic schematic I drew:
Attachment 178291

The idea is a switch (with center off) would energize one relay at a time.
And each relay is responsible for turning the motors a certain direction.
So flip the switch one way and the motors turn, flip the switch the other way and the motors turn the opposite direction.
I don't believe the load is great enough that the motors can't be wired in parallel, but the schematic can obviously be modified if needed.

Just buy the mirrors off of a jdm car with that option and wire them!

Hi thanks for the reply jon, I'm good with wiring and electronics although I've never really done this sort of thing on a car before, but I'm going to keep on with this idea as i loved these on my old car.
Also my RX8 has a spare blank button next to my window and mirror controls on my right (Right because its a right hand drive model) which i have found out is used for the electric folding mirrors in certain 8's.
Im now wondering if its best to employ my own wiring or just do what bse50 suggests and just get them off a jdm car which is going to make it allot easier i think.
Another thing i want to look in to is making the mirror fold in and fold out whenever i lock or unlock the car.

Ot takes 5 seconds to push in one and walk around to push in the other, same for the reverse

Yeah but wheres the coolness in that??? :)

Right just got pricing from Japan for 2 new JDM power mirrors and at £900 its a bit expensive!!
So now its either find someone with a Japanese 8 with power mirrors who is breaking there car and buy them or create something myself with my existing mirrors, hmmm...
