Ebay headlights

I'm considering a new headlight project and I was going to buy a set of headlights from Ebay. They are considerably cheaper than buying from Mazda, so I wasn't sure if these were the same as OEM.

I sent a message to one of the sellers and he said these are made by TYC (which is supposed to be the same brand Mazda uses), and they come in a TYC box instead of a Mazda branded box. Anyone know if these will be the same quality as OEM lights?

Link?

This was more of a general question about headlights from Ebay that do not come directly from Mazda. I'm sure there are multiple vendors selling these.

You can see the ones I'm talking about here: 2004 2008 Mazda RX8 RX 8 Head Light Headlamp Headlight Pair Left Right New | eBay . Although I'm not sure we're allowed to post eBay links.

Btw, these are non-HID units.

Those are very cheap compare to the dealers price. I'm not sure if they will fit perfectly but its a gamble. You won't know until you try it, good luck.

I was hoping to not have to try it and find out they're not OEM quality - which is why I'm posting here. ;) The return policies on these things are usually a nightmare.

lifetime warranty if they fit. damn, you've got my attention.

37 sold im gonna consider this. Mine need replacing check the reviews see if you can find anybody that gave a good review. If they don't fit swap lenses :D

I wonder if TYC can be contacted to distribute headlight lenses for replacement. There are too many damn cracked and oxidized RX-8 lights out there not to consider.

I got two brand new OEM Koito Halogen headlights for cheaper than that and then just installed an aftermarket HID kit (DDM Tuning) to still have HIDS. I wasn't going to pay $1300.00 for new factory HID's and mine looked like shit after almost 10 years. We also just did this on Hector Castillo's 04' GT as well. The only thing you lose the self leveling function but to be honest I haven't even noticed losing that.

I also had Xpel film put on them from day one, hopefully it helps with the oxidation issue.

Those ebay headlights are cheaply made and are no where near the quality of a OE headlight. The projectors are junk and that makes the light beam worthless. You will have the headlights of a 20 year old cavalier showing on the road.

Replacement lenses would be very worth while for a vendor to invest in producing, I know I would jump on a pair today.

Yeah, I will be retro fitting some new projectors in there as well. I think my auto-levelers are busted anyway, so I won't miss them when they're gone. :)

As I mentioned above, I wouldn't be using the projectors from these Ebay units. I just need to make sure the housings fit properly and all that.

I agree 100%. Mine are not only hazing on the inside and outside, but there are micro cracks forming all over them. I have to keep them polished constantly in order to keep them looking decent.

One of our local guys ordered those unknown and when they came they were OEM Koito brand halogen lights. That price is right inline with what they cost.

Are you speaking from actual experience with those lights? Because it sounds like your statement was just a guess. Not everything sold on Ebay is a cheap fake.

Rebuilding the factory lights is just not practical if the plastic lenses are old, polishing them only does so much and you will realize that when you see a brand new set side by side.

They will probably it but the cheap plastic that TYC uses will make the cutoff hazy. TYC is not the OE headlight maker. The guy was just trying to make a sale. The brand mentioned above is the OE headlight maker.

SayNoToPistons 06-12-2013 02:19 AM

So, is that from experience or just an assumption?

GK1707 06-14-2013 08:10 AM

TYC is definitely not the OEM supplier but probably the biggest supplier of aftermarket lamp assemblies. Go into any Autozone/pepboys/carquest.. whatever and most of the time the only brand of lamp assemblies they carry is TYC. OEM fit, but OEM function?... questionable. I havent seen them installed on an 8 (not that I know of atleast) but its hit or miss, like with any Ebay part.

ShellDude 06-15-2013 02:39 PM

These are authentic Mazda lamps guys... Complete with the blue Mazda sticker to prove it.

TonyTXrx8 05-30-2017 01:46 AM

How did this turn out?

Did you ever order these lights?

ShellDude 05-30-2017 09:34 AM

I ordered a set of them (Halogen) and with a little bit of creative engineering was able to move my HIDs over to them.
