Removing Logo's
I was just wondering how much work goes into something as simple as removing a logo? I ask this because I want to remove the Mazda logo on the front and all but the RX-8 logo on the rear. Is this a bigger job than it seems?

I've known people to get good results using a hair dryer or heat gun to help loosen the adhesive, and then dental floss for removal (some cars prefer waxed mint :D)
Just don't try it with a screwdriver. When using a heat gun, be careful not to overheat the paint. |
red base has the method down, that's exactly how it's done.

That's as long as there aren't any "posts" in the logo that lines it up in the bodywork (as in some cars). Then you'll have a pair of "breather" holes in the front of the car.

my sister's acura 3.2cl had the posts. I'm right with tallguy on what I want to remove and what I want to keep. Anyone know if mazdas generally have posts on badges or not?
If they do, you are going to need to do 1 of 2 things... 1) get them removed by a body shop and have the panel repainted (too costly to be worth it? probably) 2) get in a fender bender and damage that panel. Then it needs to get repainted anyway, so go ahead and take them off. 3) don't do 2, otherwise we will all shed a collective tear. |

Call it a curse I've had with many of the vehicles (*cough* *cough* RX-7s) I've owned. (^_^) |
Anyone know if mazdas generally have posts on badges or not? And I've got the dented up Mazda logo as a souvenier -- it has posts that stick into the car. Or at least had, before it was pulled off. -SS |
i'm about 90% sure that the MX-6 (1993-1997) had posts too.
|
I looked on the Mazda6 forum and found a little info.
Tha model logo does not seem to have posts. One member over there removed the Mazda6 Badge, but left the winged M emblem. There is reason to believe the winged M emblems have posts to ensure correct alignment. This has been the case for numerous Mazda models, and I'm sure there is some consistency across the brand in this regard. If that's the case, I wouldn't worry too much about it - just leave it on. |
The front logo generally has posts and adhesive on most cars just to secure it from flying off.

my protege has posts on every badge.
only way i know is to take them off and weld the hole, then buff and repaint |
both my mazdas have had posts in them. With my old red rx7, i had 3 holes i think in the rear and 2 in the front. You can patch with some body filler and use touch up paint, it worked awesome. I just had to make sure the body filler didnt go anywhere other than RIGHT ON the holes.

I couldn't find the other thread regarding this subject but there are posts on every emblem. I've been looking over my car and I'm interested in doing it. I was against the idea at first because like many of us, I thought it would look weird. But after looking at my pics, I think with the rotary accents alone on the car would look great. The hairdryer and dental floss procedure seems possible for me to do, but in no way would I know how to fill those holes. What do you think a body shop would charge to fill and paint? I have the touch-up paint but would they have to paint the whole thing? Anybody with experience in this area care to offer some advice and what you might think a job like that would cost?
Thanks, BV |

Thanks for the info, but if I were to de-badge I would do the front and the 3 in the back.
|
Ok, just to verify things here, the badge on the front, and the rear deck have posts on them? And the only one that doesnt is the RX8 badge on the back. Thats simple enough. TIA
|
id leave the front badge on and and take everything off the back except the rx-8 emblem

Gotta bring this thread back from the dead...Has anyone been successful in removing the front and back Mazda badges and replacing it the rotary badges? Btw, where can I find the triangular rotary badge? I couldn't find any on eBay...
