Installed clear markers

I received mine. It took about one week. They are easy to install. I looked in the owner's manual to find out how to access the bulbs. Turn the wheels to gain access to the wheel wells. There are approx. 5 plastic 1/4 turn Philips screws to remove. The top screw is a little tricky because you have to apply pressure to the outer ring to keep the whole assembly from spinning. Once the screws are removed, pull back the wheel well plastic a little bit to gain access to the one screw that keeps the light assembly in place. Remove the screw with either a Philips screwdriver or a nut driver (not sure what size). Pull the side of the light nearest the wheel well. A plastic tab keeps it held in. Then just slide the light assembly towards the wheel well.

The clear light assemblys come with a light cable and orange lamp. I found it is easier to to not install the new cable. Just swamp lamps.

Did anyone use the harness?

I was just curious, these were being sold as an assy from
Mazda, but I can see if we can get it from them without the
harness, and if possible we might just do that for the future
damn that sucks..

I just swapped the bulbs out of the stock harness...

I've seen some pics of the 8 with orange Blinkers on the front quarter panel, and others with white Blinkers......What comes standard on the car in the US? Why the variable?

RX8Lover 09-09-2003 03:22 PM

oh god....someone wanna take this one please? Looks like we have a newbie here.

o_town_racer 09-09-2003 04:20 PM

blink blink

o_town_racer 09-09-2003 04:21 PM

Blinker colors

Orange in the US, clear in Europe. You can buy the clear ones to make your car look more "European".....personally I like mine just the way it came from the factory.

dcfc3s 09-09-2003 04:39 PM

The clear blinkers are also standard in Japan. Rotary Extreme sells them, BTW.

Personally, I like the clear markers - looks a lot sharper and cleaner.

yes, you got me......new!! Oh no!!!! C'mon...the car has been out for a short time and I'm anxious to see how much I have to do to get the look I want....Thanks for the info....I ordered clear covers this PM......Keep an eye out for other newbie questions to follow.

brothervoodoo 09-09-2003 07:47 PM

Check my sig... before and after side markers..

SWEET Lookin' 8...I dig the clear lights....tell me about the strakes......polished or brushed aluminum.....what's available and do they install easily?

RX-8 Zoomster 09-10-2003 01:23 AM

Be aware that you can buy the clear side markers to replace your yellow markers, however when you do this, you must replace the clear bulb with a yellow bulb. It is the law that states your side turn signals must be yellow. So clear side marker = yellow bulb. Yellow side marker = clear bulb.

not in cali they dont. front blinkers can be any color in cali. but rears must be amber or red.

dont know about other states.

Rev It Up 09-10-2003 07:53 AM

Well for heavens sake, I thought they where clear because they just ran out of BLINKER FLUID !!!

jdaled 09-10-2003 09:32 AM

BTW, those aren't blinkers... they're side markers, they don't blink. The blinkers are in the headlight assembly and use amber bulbs.

As for the state laws, I checked here in IN, and the law speaks about the color reflected from the lense as well, so I'm a bit hesitant to get the clear corners, although I do want them.

If I do go ahead and get them, I'm planning to put in some chrome/silver coated amber bulbs (stealth type).

Clear Winker Set @ JT-Imports

has anyone actually bought the clear winker set from JT-Imports i realize now they have 3 options. One with the harness the other without and one just the plain winkers. Would it still install and fit in as good without the harness? How much of a difference does the harness make? Last how long did it usually take to get them shipped?

brothervoodoo 09-16-2003 03:11 PM

At least 15 forum members, myself included, bought from Jt-Imports. We received the sidemarker, harness and yellow bulb. I found it easier to install by using the original harness and just replaced the bulb and sidemarker.

Goto jt-imports.com and send them an email, I'm sure Jason will return your replies.

ectomort 09-16-2003 05:46 PM

Re: Clear Winker Set @ JT-Imports

I bought the harnessless ones from JT-Imports. I received them yesterday (it took about a week for them to ship) and installed them in about 10min. I bought 194NA amber bulbs from a local auto supply shop for less than $4, and just popped em in. Piece o' cake.

mikeb 09-16-2003 05:59 PM

jt didn't always have 3 options, they do know because most people didn't use the harness and bulb.
If I bought it again I would save the cash and just get the sidemark with no harness or bulb

ectomort 09-16-2003 07:04 PM

I got lucky... Jason had 10 units w/o the harness and offered me one + $30 refund. It worked out perfectly for both of us, as I wasn't planning on using the harness anyways.

garyna 09-17-2003 06:11 PM

I have an extra pair of these clear side marker lenses listed in the classified section if you're interested. No harness or bulb. Thx!

Anyone else order clear corners from CorkSport?

If so, have you received yours, or do you have an ETA of when they will ship them? They won't return my emails.

Thanks.

mikeb 09-18-2003 01:33 AM

sorry to hear that
I went thru Jt-imports

Jt-Imports 09-20-2003 04:44 AM

Yeah I wish I knew it was possible and or not needed to have the harness. At least we wont run into that one again. Some people recieved refunds on the spot due to excepting the winkers without bulbs or harnesses.

Well good luck with them everyone.

Question about installing the clear corners

For those who installed the clear corners from jt-imports: I was wondering if you need to buy the whole assembly with the harness, or just the clear lens.
They are offering three versions: with harness, without harness and lens only. I wonder what's the best way to go.
Here is the link:
Clear corners at jt-imports
Of course the lens alone is cheaper... did anyone of you get just the lens and can tell me about any problems while installing them?

Thanks!

Kawi 10-02-2003 12:19 PM

You just need the lenses.

Here's the install thread: http://www.rx8forum.com/showthread.p...threadid=10379

Installed clear side markers -- WOW!

I got my clear side markers from JT-Imports yesterday and installed them last night. I knew they'd improve the appearance, but I had no idea it would be that dramatic!

The clear markers look FANTASTIC on my Titanium Gray 8! It should have come with them.

x-mobile 10-28-2003 02:04 PM

I just recieved my clear side markers too ....and I installed it..and they Look great!! I'll post pics up when I get a chance!!

The clear side markers look much better on most colours, but I prefer the orange ones on the red as it makes them less obvious, however in the UK we all get clear ones.

I suppose you can't please everyone!

Cheers

Tamas 10-28-2003 03:13 PM

In that case, I'll swap my orange side markers with your clear ones when my car arrives (should be in about two weeks). Interested? :)

pepe 10-28-2003 03:28 PM

So I guess I shouldn't mention how we Aussies get clear sides as standard gear :p

druck 10-28-2003 03:39 PM

Still waiting for my order too. If we did a swap, we'd both be without sidemarkers for however long they took to cross half the world. I'd rather get the old ones off someone whos already done a replacement, and fit them when I get chance. After that you'd be welcom to my clear set.

Any how clear markers or not, I envy you being able to take your new RX8 for a blast around the twisties on route 1. I was in SF this time last year and the weather was gorgeous. Here in the UK, the clocks have just come off day light savings, so its dark, cold and raining and really not the weather to enjoy a new car.

Cheers

Thanks for the offer... I might take you up on that, especially if my car will be delayed (hope not) unless I can't wait and jump the gun with ordering a pair beforehand :D

Yep, the weather is pretty good. It was well over 90 Fahrenheit (something like 30 Celsius or so) last weekend :D
It's like summer here... can't wait for my car.

jdaled 10-28-2003 03:58 PM

Ummmm... I think the reason we don't get clear corneres as stock in the US is because so many states (if not all) have outlawed them. In Indiana, the law requires Amber reflectors at the front corners... not just light up amber, but reflect amber.

Definitely not ALL states. Indiana maybe, but for instance in CA, the side marker can be amber OR white.
But I agree with you - even if there is any ONE state that outlaws clear markers, Mazda USA will import the ONE version which is OK everywhere - and since amber is not outlawed anywhere, they certainly go with that.
Kinda sucks of course because that pumpkin color is ugly on all but maybe on red and perhaps yellow cars.

It is almost always dark, cold and raining over there..... The difference is that off of daylight savings it gets dark around 3.

energie 10-28-2003 10:53 PM

how much? do they still have them in stock? the last time i heard, he told me he's out of stock.

if they have them in now, i'll order a pair

as i understand it, in texas it is technically required that there are two markers that reflect yellow/amber. and so your side markers can be any color (between white and yellow)... the catch is that there is nothing out on the market that reflects amber that isn't already amber. that's why a lot of cars have just the amber turn signal covers with a "reflective patch" on the side of the cover; it kills two birds with one stone.

now whether the cops will pull you over just because you have clear markers is a different story. mostly likely the cop will just add the citation onto something bigger (like speeding, etc.).

I'll sell you my amber ones if you want....or I'll swap you for the white ones...someone always needs or wants the white ones over here ...:)

flip 10-29-2003 10:41 PM

so... looking a jt imports.. do i need to order the harness too? or harness with blinkers? in other words.. which one should i order?

Tamas 10-30-2003 09:45 PM

As far as I understand it, the only thing you should need are the lenses - no harness. You are gonna use your existing one.

mikeb 10-31-2003 12:23 AM

you just need the corners
no harness necessary

flip 10-31-2003 02:51 AM

thanks guys.. just ordered it from jt imports.. :)

jtimbck2 10-31-2003 06:28 AM

You need the bulbs too -- the stock bulbs are clear, the ones that you get with the clear corners are amber.
