Busted Mirror
I wasn't sure where to post this, but it definitely impacted my exterior appearance, so here goes. I just got home from the store. While I was stopped in my 8 waiting for traffic to move so I could get out of the parking lot, this stupid wench runs her $*#@ shopping cart into a large sign pole that was standing next to my car, in the middle of the road that exits the lot. The pole was one of those heavy steel poles mounted on an old wheel filled with concrete. Well, the impact of her cart knocks the pole over right onto my car! :Eyecrazy: I heard it hit but I wasn't looking that direction when it happened so I didn't see exactly where it hit at first. I got out of the car and see the woman untangling her cart from the pole and I asked the stupid cow what the hell just happened, and she says, "It fell over" and just keeps walking away, as if it were an act of nature. Not even an apology, and I know she saw it hit my car. I looked over the car and thought at first that I got freakishly lucky, because I didn't see any body damage. Then to my horror I realized that the pole didn't hit the body at all, just my driver's side mirror, and it broke half of the body-colored plastic piece off! I didn't know what to do because the woman wasn't driving so it's not like I could get her insurance info, and she was already a ways away when I realized the damage. So I just drove home, extremely p.o.'d.
This is the first damage I've had to the car, I've only had it 11 months. I guess I'm lucky because it would've made a huge dent in my door or hood if it had hit there, but this is still infuriating. Some people are so stupid it's amazing they're still alive. Anyway, my question is, does anyone know if it's possible to just replace the body-colored plastic piece of the mirror, or will I have to replace the whole unit?! My old car with manual mirrors cost $350 to replace the whole mirror, so I figure the 8's power mirrors are going to be at least $500+. Does anyone have any experience with this? I just moved and started a new job, so cash is tight. But I have to get the baby back to her unblemished beautiful self. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.
