Body shops ......... ripoff companies is more like it
Seriously I ordered a body kit from a respected company around here, Tsunami, and the kit LOOKS awesome ........ in the box, the reason it is still in the box is because I am in upstate New York, and here are the responses i've gotten on the phone when asking about painting it/installing it.
"$1500 to begin with start" "We don't like to do body kits cause they ALL fit like crap" "We only charge by the hour for kits" "We did a mustang kit that costs the guy $4000 to paint/install" My favorite of all time Me: How much to debadge my car Guy: Well we would have to take off the front bumper, and then the rear bumper and then because the holes would be there we would have to re-paint the entire front and rear bumper and it would be about $1000. Seriously I'm getting so frustrated over here, its no wonder that people try to do the kits themselves because finding a shop is like :banghead: why are these people so stubborn .......... I mean i know its going to cost me, and im willing to pay about $600 - $700 install which is what rex said should cost, and rodney told me $200 for the paint install ........ but seriously $1500???? I could see if it fit like crap but cmon man. I seriously might just end up taking the car + kit to kenny in New York city (2 hours away) for a decent price =/ |

i work at a bodyshop and i don't blame them one bit for not wanting to do the kit. that's probably the reason they quoted you so much. they were hoping you wouldn't bring it to them...haha seriously unless your buying a very expensive top notch kit. they will spend many many hours to get it fitting right... if they just had to paint and install your looking at about 600 like your thinking. but I've only seen maybe 2 out of 100 that you don't have to spend hours to get it to fit. that's why i wouldn't buy anything but the mazdaspeed kit for my rx8. that kit is the top notch I'm talking about..
|
Yeah $1500 is just outrageous... I hope you told them to fuck off
|
did they say they were gonna blend the paint on the rest of ur body panels to match?
|
i got my kit for 600
painted for 350 installed myself |
My old Honda had a kit.
I paid 800 for the whole kit. I spent about 20 hours fitting my kit by hand, I don't know how much urethane dust i breathed. and 700 for repaint of the "whole" car. that was 10 years ago. 1500 for a finished product sounds great, and the kit will fit bad, they all do. If I ever decide to kit this car it will be mazdaspeed only. |
kenny is still doing 8's....i sent him 2 a few weeks ago......he ranges 250-400 per corner as far as i have seen depending on fitment and quality of the kit.....and his paint isnt maaco.....if you go in the GG thread you will see he has done over 20 cars from here alone.....and some were the sickest on this board

make a trip down to PA ill do it for you for 600 if i dont have alot of trouble fitting it. we use dupont paint products

umm ok Im goona have my cf gt comp front end put on by kenny now All I need is kenny's #. There seems to be alot of kenny's in the phone book... Yall got the mans digits. I would supposed that my kit is good fitment although my lame self couldn't get it fitting perfectly and i dont wana mess the kit up its tooooo Hot!!!!
(I am assume Carbon Creations is Top Notch) |
you don't know
I work in a shop in SF and they are not joking with the prices to make it look good. You have to remove bumpers to fill holes then prime prep and respray them. Most body kits use all kinds of clips that all cost a buck or two each. Then to fit and refit the pieces over and over again not to mention the body work they need most are not straight and the lines are not flush to the car. The kits don't just press onto the car until you install one yourself don't say you are getting ripped off when they ask a high price.

with the tsunami kit there is not going to be hours of fitment bs to worry about...trust me, I did it myself...see my sig
