When pushing on the gas, a second or two goes by before the car launches.
I don't really know which thread to put this in, but i have a question. Is the rx8 supposed to do this?: you push on the pedal pretty far, then a second or two goes by, and then the car launches with speed? My mothers nissan altima is different, as soon as you push the pedal, the car takes off, and it's completely stock. So im wondering, is there anything i can do to the rx8 so as soon as i push the pedal it takes off without that little moments hesitation?

2004 mazda rx8 automati/manual

sell it, its a defect..
|
really? thats an extreme answer. theres nothing i can do to it to fix it?

Just to clarify... when you press on the gas pedal, does the car move right away or are you saying there is a delay from the time you press the pedal to the time the car moves?
|
the car moves as soon as i push the pedal, let me clarify.
on the rx8. when i give it alot of gas, it accelerates a little bit, then the real power kicks in a second or two later. on my mothers nissan, when i give it alot of gas the real power kicks in instantly. it seems like the rx8 has a safety feature to not allow the driver to accelerate too fast or something. |
1) This isn't a Nissan so stop comparing
2) At what RPM are you trying to accelerate quickly? If its under 4K forget about "quick" acceleration. 3) If there is a lag above 4K RPM, many factors such as clogged cat, ignition components, dirty MAF, or intake leak can cause this. |
ok its number two. so thats normal then? so if i wanted to get max acceleration of a stop how would i do that?
|
Stay in 1st gear longer... shift at higher RPM. :dunno:
I've never driving a 4-port auto before so I don't know the "sweet spot" shift points. But on my manual I stay in 1st until 6-7K rpm and shift quickly before the RPMs drop below 4K. And I'm not sure how our "4K rpm launch" works on the auto... |
yeah on a automatic/manual reline begins at 7.5k
|
Just play with the different RPM ranges and keep the shifting at higher RPMs.
Redline does not mean you'll get the most power there, so don't judge that as your shift point. Sorry to say, but the 4-port auto engine is the lowest powered... so you're kinda stuck there. |
yeahhh.i wish i went with the manual. it was 7k more though. mine only cost me 10k
|
Well then I won't mention that manuals go for 10-12K nowadays... oh wait, I just did :)
|
hahaha so im assuming taking it to the shop and getting the transmission changed to manual would cost a shit ton
|
Not to mention it won't help with "performance gains" the MTs have... you're still restricted by the 4-port motor!

My recommendation for a "launch" Foot on Brake, Keep the RPM at around 2.5k, that should give you a slighter better launch! |
