Which programming package to get

Need the USB programming cable which one do I get? CZ-Prog1 or CZ-Prog2?

epitrochoid 09-06-2004 08:14 PM

#1 is USB
#2 is serial

the myth that you cant custom tune with #1 is...a myth!

Xyntax 09-06-2004 08:27 PM

Could you tune it with just a clone cable and e-manage support tool? Or CZ did something proprietary to it that only his software will work?

Magic8 09-06-2004 09:55 PM

Thanks Brian!

epitrochoid 09-06-2004 10:03 PM

from what i understand the pins are rearranged on the CZ side...it's not a true usb layout. either way you need the software

Speed Racer 09-06-2004 10:06 PM

Yes, a Greddy clone cable and eManage support tool will work fine. Actually that is exactly what you get from Maurice when you order the programming kit.

Xyntax 09-06-2004 10:13 PM

Thanks for the info Speed Racer! That's all I needed to know ;)

EDIT: What's the difference between the programming kit 1 and 2 then? CZ listed them in different prices.

Speed Racer 09-07-2004 10:05 AM

epitrochoid has already mentioned the differences between the two programming kits. Just scroll up a couple of posts. ;)

I have the kit that came with the USB cable and it works fine.

mysql101 09-13-2004 04:06 PM

with the cz 1.1 and the usb cable... what else would one need to tune the car? e.g; where would one get the software, and does it cost anything?

Speed Racer 09-13-2004 04:22 PM

In order to fine tune the car you really need CANscan or a wideband O2 sensor and data logger (ex. lambda boy).

CANscan uses the wideband O2 sensor that is already installed in the exhaust and Maurice says that the program is accurate to 0.1 while it is in the 12-15 range.

Unfortunately the information is scattered throughout the forum and the web.

Don't worry, you won't have to spend countless hours searching. I've be collecting all of this stuff for a while and will be compiling all of the info into something that is a little easier to read/understand. I'm sure that it will remain a work in progress for a while as more people try to tune the RX-8 and share their experiences.

Speed Racer 09-13-2004 04:48 PM

You can buy the eManage Support Tool (software & cable) from Canzoomer , Mohd Parts , or a handful of other online stores.

The USB cable is a lot less expensive and a lot more useful than the serial cable mentioned above. Just try to find a new laptop with a serial port ;). The only drawback is Windows tries to hide the comm port from you. I'm joking of course, Windows just chooses an "appropriate" empty port when you plug in the cable. To find it (once you install the drivers that come with the package - in the folder labled "Cable"), use "Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Ports (click on the +)". You'll see the cable listed along with its' comm port #. Select that comm port in the program and you're good to go. The program will remember that comm port, Windows may not the next time you install the cable. If it's gone you just have to look it up again.

You only have to install the drivers once.

It got me the first few times I used it, but I learned.

When you say the wideband sensor is already in the exhaust, is that sensor in the cat portion of aft of the cat, i.e. if I replaced the stock catback is the sensor still there?

Speed Racer 09-23-2004 12:56 PM

There are two O2 sensors in the mid pipe of the exhaust. The wide band sensor is placed in front of the cat and the narrow band is placed after it. A cat back exhaust would not remove any of the sensors.
