Is my Accessoport married to my ecu or VIN?

Is the ap married to the cars ecu or vin, and is my vin number stored inside the accessport somewhere?

Can an accessport that was bought as an upgrade be divorced in the same manner?

Because an AP bought as an upgrade may be associated with a particular ECU since it costs less, but its unlikely Cobb would do this as it seems rather complicated.

The old "upgrade" AccessPORTs will not work on a car that didn't have one of the VERY OLD AccessECU flashes. These units would only work on cars that were so equipped and no others.

That said, if you are talking about a V1 to V2 upgrade, these AccessPORTs are the same as any other so you can uninstall them and sell them on, trade them for beer or what have you and they can be installed on another car.

When you uninstall the AccessPORT it writes the stock map that was previously on the ECU back to the car, this is part of the uninstall process. DO NOTE: This is not the same as flashing the "stock map" to the car, you have to go through the uninstall process to "unmarry" the AccessPORT. Once this is done, the ECU is back to 100% stock and the AccessPORT can be installed on another car.

Its not cheap, and you need proof that it wasn't stolen or anything like that lol
We are able to "relicense" a unit that is still installed on a stolen or wrecked car but we do need to see 1. Proof of purchase AND/OR 2. A police report stating the car is wrecked or stolen or an insurance claim stating the car was wrecked or stolen. Otherwise, the relicensing fee is $395.

He didn't have any problem searching for a radiator in the FS area recently, just lazy I guess

vettedriver986 08-13-2011 10:27 AM

who you calling lazy? Dont have to be an ass.... I am rebuilding this whole car... and if you didnt notice, that isnt lazy at all. I did look using google about the AP question, but several people said married to vin, and others said to ecu. So whatever.

I think he may be referring to laythor's post, not yours. That is what I was talking about, anyway.

Its married to both since the ECU is married to the VIN.
The cluster, immobilizer, keys and PCM are all locked to each other.

Based on all the people who fail to search and rehash the same subject over and over again I have to be an ass to avoid having an aneurism.

The bottom line is that regardless, when it is married to your car it is married to it and when it's not it's not. Yeah, it really is that simple. Maybe if you explained why the distinction is so important to you we may be able to understand and address the the root of your inquiry.
