Yeah IIRC, that ECU didn't work so well. I think it was Dannobre who tried to run it and then gave up after working with Haltech unsuccessfully to get the issues resolved. Specs say it only supports 4 injectors so maybe Dan was using an even higher end model.

The cheapest standalone i'd use is the Adaptronic select, 1400$. It's a nice entry level product. Then on to bigger things like MoTec or Bosch.

My point is that if I'm going to spend $1k+, I may as well start looking into something else. With the AP only being $400, any other "flash" based software needs to be around that price range to be worth the price justification to me.

This comes from an user that can't tune his own AP the proper way... how would you start with a blank ecu?
That softwares allows you to tune multiple cars, the standalone doesn't.

As BSE said , Mazdaedit Pro allows you to tune an unlimited number of cars with the drawback being that you can't currently tune remotely . Once (if) the slave software is available this will enable remote tuning ,as well as self tuning ,and that software should be significantly cheaper than the pro version.

I actually enquired with Cobb to buy thier Pro version as well ( at over $2000 ) but they wont sell it due to an agreement with you know who ....

I'm only going to point out the fact that can't is much different from want or care. If I felt it would be worth the trouble, I would have continued to care. It runs at factory AFRs, has 25k miles without problem, and still gets over 240 miles per tank of gas. That's good enough for me for a failed experiment. If there was another rotary car available from Mazda right now, this car would already be gone.

That would be nice, and would make it a little more worth wild. The pro version is a little overkill if you're not a tuner that works with multiple peoples cars, and only needs it for your one vehicle.

Incidentally, Protuner is about the same price as MazdaEdit and appears to have similar, if not equal, extensibility.

If it wasn't for the simplicity of a MAP based system with my Adaptronic I would pick one of these two products, no doubt.

You and many others, Bret. He who must not be named did a phenomenal job of protecting his business model and he has no problems stating as much. We talked about it (rather heatedly) one evening after an all day tuning session.

shelldude - the map as supplied to me did not have enough definitions to enable a tune . Looks like I'm the first one they have had buy it that actually intends using it to tune .
But the guy is helping me through it so all the definitions should be sorted for the next person who buys it.

I still have a 20' long RS232 cable for that damn piece of software that would crash every 15-30 seconds. He kept promising us a new version.... a 2.0 snuck out to a few of us but it wasn't any better.

curious stuff, how many tables/windows does the mazdaedit have compared to the cobb atr?
I feel really comfortable with the cobb ap, so I am hesitant to jump on board with something else, unless there is features like lauch control and or other windows/handles that would prove beneficial. SSV control? real knock sensor values? intake temp vs timing retard? coolant temp vs timing retard?

I know one thing I love about the powerFC (for the rx-7) is on the trailing timing map you can choose to view that as split instead of straight timing.

Brenttspeed stickers will give you 20hp on a NA car. It's butt dyno proven.

According to the current info on their site the personal version doesn't support the RX-8.

I'll be following this thread, curious to see where it goes and if there will be any advantages over the AP.
