Interceptor X

Hi chaps,

Can anyone tell me if the Interceptor X is a stand alone? As in does it completely replace the stock ecu?

Thanks

Jedi54 04-15-2010 09:49 AM

piggy back
buy an AccessPORT, much better then Int-X.

HomicidalApple 04-15-2010 10:10 AM

^^^^^ +1!!!

Dont waste your money man the AP is waaay better. Contact MazdaManiac

I've already got one. So do you remove the stock ecu with it? Or does it piggy back it?

Jedi54 04-15-2010 11:17 AM

piggy back.
search is your friend.

dannobre 04-16-2010 01:12 AM

It's not really a piggy back in a true sense of the word..it completely controls the fuel and ignition....but allows the stock ECU to run the rest....

Gotcha, thanks

It's a Microtech, with the factory ECU on life support. As for "better," well that depends what you are trying to do.

MazdaManiac 04-16-2010 05:00 PM

ANYTHING is better than the Microtech for this application.
I'd rather go with Claudio's recommendation of the Haltech Sprint (or whatever its called) than saddle another hapless user with the Microtech.
It just really isn't an acceptable solution for a modern, road-going automobile.

Has anyone got any base maps for this ecu for a turbo equipped RX8?

renesisking 05-14-2010 09:01 PM

I have a question regarding the Int-X. I bought one and had to get it repaired and is getting fixed now, but I was curious if you tune your car with it, and then unplug it, will the factory ecu power settings still remain or will it go with the Int-X when removed?

dannobre 05-14-2010 09:56 PM

If you tune with the IntX..the tune is in it...so if you remove it you are back to stock...

dannobre 05-14-2010 10:04 PM

Actually it replaces the stock fuel and ignition completely....and passes through enough info to keep the stock ECU happy....

renesisking 05-14-2010 10:07 PM

So, say for some reason I had to take it to a mazda dealership to get it checked out. If I pulled out the Int-X and the wiring it'll revert back to its origonal OEM settings? The ignition and fuel won't be screwed up?

TeamRX8 05-14-2010 10:10 PM

Oops, my bad

It is a true stand-alone ECU that plugs into the OE harness

D'ohhh!

.

If its gone...it's gone....no sigh of it...

But a bigger question...for a NA car....why bother at all....get an AP..will work better for less

renesisking 05-14-2010 10:23 PM

I bought mine and repaired for about $250, I couldn't find an AP for cheaper or close to it. What advantages does the AP offer over the Int-X? So far the people I've talked to only have had one or the other and not both to give a decent enough feedback. One of the memebers I've talked to (I got my exhaust from him) had an AP and he said that it said he had about 260hp. I know thats not true no matter how you look at it. Sorry for the newbie questions, but I am new to chips and ecus, I'm more of a wrench guy.

Cheap will never work 100% ... trust me ...

I've used both and know I know at least one other person in this thread has also. The interceptor will work to run your car. The way it works is drastically different than the AccessPort and there are pros and cons to either. Both can be made to work well if you take the time to learn them.

Are you n/a or f/i?

the interceptor was never a cheap unit to buy new. please come up with a new way to hate on a product you have chosen not to like because the mob here decided.

dannobre 05-15-2010 01:37 AM

Hell the LT10 is $950m from Microtech...and the harness is $120ish.......

The box, and all the engineering......hell we were lucky they were the price they were at the time

For an NA car,,,the Accessport at $395 is a steal

I've used or been around both, along with the emanage. The microtech is a dinosaur. it takes some very skillful trickery to even get it to idle really well.

while i agree that there are applications for anything... a street driven vehicle, your average DD, or enthusiast with FI would be better off clubbing someone they hate with it

I used it for all those things and thought it was fine once I got acclimated to how the features worked. Apparently scott or microtech madte things for differently for the 4-port on the fueling side and didn't bother to tell anyone. Once that was figured out it was cake.

There were different ways to wire the fuel injectors...the 4 port only had 4...so it was wired differently than a 6 port for that reason

The NA and FI injectors were wired differently as well....

That would have been helpful 3 years ago. I got it now.
