I cant get my AccessPort to connect to Access Manager

Is this a known issue?

I will say that under Windows device manager I have an exclamation point next to my AccessPORT. In that I get the message (The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)) I try to reinstall these drivers by clicking the appropriate button, but no luck.

Any advice?

nuke0907 03-21-2009 11:46 PM

weird. mine installed new drivers when i first downloaded the program.

05rex8 03-21-2009 11:49 PM

what OS are you running?

carbonRX8 03-21-2009 11:51 PM

xp sp3

05rex8 03-21-2009 11:56 PM

that's weird...maybe it's a computer related issue. I have vista and have never had problems.

try removing your usb chipset in device manager, then scan for hardware changes and it will reinstall it. sometimes that helps to refresh the drivers. or see if there is an updated driver for your specific chipset. that's all i got. you may want to also try the cobb forums.

So device manager sees the accessport, but says that it doesnt have drivers. I uninstalled that device and reconnected the AP. It is now asking me where it can find the drivers. Wouldnt they be on the cd?

I am confussiled.

PS. The AP did sync up with the car just fine.

nuke0907 03-22-2009 12:11 AM

just have it automatically find the drivers. i never even used the CD.

carbonRX8 03-22-2009 10:59 AM

It trys to find a driver, but tells me access is denied. I searched the Cobb forums and here and didn't find any answers.

So...bump.

THis turns out to be a very complicated, but very specific issue related to the interactions of one of my computers and the AP. The issue has been partially resolved through the excellent customer service at Cobb. Currently working with them to reach complete resolution.

Good luck carbon!

Thanks man. See you Tuesday.

please share what you have to do, im having the same issue

Flashwing 04-06-2009 11:51 PM

Ok, let's see if I can help you here:

This is what needs to be done. Uninstall all versions of your software and uninstall all associated AP drivers from your system. (You should not be installing anything off of the provided Accessport CD)

Then, point your browser to the base calibration thread: https://www.rx8club.com/mazdamaniac-183/new-mazdamaniac-base-calibrations-162263/

From here, download the Accessport manager and install. This will install the AP driver along with it. It will require you plug in your AP during the installation.

Then, download and install the Accessport Updater. Run the updater and install all new updates to your accessport.

Finally, download the appropriate base calibration and import to the AP manager. Drag the calibration to your AP, connect to your car and follow the on screen instructions for upgrading your dongle and then install the calibration.

Get logs, sent data, get calibration and HAVE FUN!

thanks flashwing but there is a problem with vista and drivers. Right now im running my AP through vmware on a virtual computer. Its a PITA but better than no AP at all. Just hope there can be some 64bit drivers released soon.

new ATR release from Cobb....

You can download the official release here.

See if it will connect to the dongle in the car. Mine had that error and would give me an error when trying to connect to the ecu. I called Cobb and they told me to send it in. Turns out the unit touched static and fried the board inside. They sent it back quick with the newest firmware.

I guess I could bump this.....I have a Vista machine and my AP won't connect to it when using the AP Manager so I can't load maps. But I can connect to my XP machine just fine, so I know the hardware is good.

My Device Manager has a (!) next to AccessPORT. I right click it and select "Update Drivers", I manually select the AP Manager program file folder, it finds the driver, but then says there is a problem installing AccessPORT 2.0 (file doesn't exist) or something like that. Anyone else have these problems? Really annoying.

I've tried downloading the AP manager 4 or 5 different times, so I have no clue. It does find the driver, but says it doesn't work....so I'm lost. Computers isn't my best thing so if anyone has any input that would be nice. Thanks!

Well, I bought another computer just for the car (it is a little mini Dell inspiron; not bad) and I downloaded the new updated software. I am running XP home on it. Everything is good to go. I can collect data directly from the dongle. I am now SWAMPED in data from the ATR software as wells as data from my LMA-3 including boost, Fuel pressure, side-to-side and front-to-back g-force. It is a datajunky's dream.

I never figured out my original problem tho.

chickenwafer 06-22-2009 04:41 PM

Yeah I've given up trying to connect my Vista machine to the AP.

Sweet. How is the tuning going?

carbonRX8 06-23-2009 11:23 AM

It is going ok. There are some minor issue such as my mph reading is wacky. Reads triple digits. THis is annoying as I use it to determine what gear I am in in the log (I basically weed out all the gears that I am not interested in)

I got an excel sheet to work that averages all my AFRs from my LC1 into a table with cells defined by rpm and load. This helps to figure out where any issues are.

I think I have my new Mazdaspeed maf calibrated, but will have to check. I am getting a noise under the hood that is reminicent of a bad water pump. This would suck.

The car needs to go to paint this week. I will give up on the tuning while it is getting done.

I dont think I am going to make it to Kent Island today.

Also, I had this issue, I tried a different USB cable and it connected.

it seems to only connect through specific types of USB cables (I used a PS3 dual shock charging cable)

What operating system? Access Port for the RX8 is not compatible with windows 8 or 10.

Striker-7 07-09-2016 07:00 PM

I'm still running Windows 7, and have had instances where the AccessPort can't be seen by the computer. Every time it has happened, it's been trying to connect either through a USB hub, or via a USB 3.0 port. A straight cable to a USB 1.1/2.0 port fixes it.
