Hypertech 62003 Max Energy Sports tuner

Is the Hypertech 62003 Max Energy Sport Power Programmer another ECU flashing option? It is my understanding I can no longer buy a Cobb brand new, just curious if anyone has used or heard of this one before.

Thanks

This product made no discernible difference in the performance of my car and the support staff at Hypertech stonewalled my questions on how the product was supposed to work in my car. I would not buy this and do not recommend it. They say that they will customize the program for "any car" but they will not explain how, what or why this would be so or even what computer settings on the car will be changed
Doesn't look like it . What makes you think you can't buy a new Cobb ?

No. You can tell because it is offered for a wide range of vehicles without individual versions.

In order for a flashing device's software to open up the tune properly, the software's developers must have completely reverse engineered the existing flash files. There is no "one size fits all" that will ever work for the RX-8. You can't even use a JDM Cobb on a USDM RX-8, and vise versa, there are too many differences.

I hadn't heard that the AP was no longer purchasable though, where did you hear that? There was a period that is wasn't available a few years back, but one of our members negociated to become the sole retailer for the RX-8's AP. He is still selling them as far as I can tell, though he has been banned from the community.

Then there is MazdaEdit, which is the only other solid flashing option we are aware of, and has the added advantage that they decoded the Series2 RX-8, which Cobb did not. It's cheaper, though there is no hardware other than a cable to connect to a laptop. It's software based.
