e85 cold start

need some advice on how to improve e85 cold start. i have track event this weekend and it will be below freezing in the morning. even with ambient temp in 40s this week, it takes awhile to start. and after it starts, it shuts off and i have to restart it a few times until it can hold a steady idle time it warms up. after it warms up, it starts and runs fine.

current setup:
new ported engine
D585 coils (using dwell table posted by TeamRx8)
stock pump and injectors
SOHN adapter and premix
Versatuner

Versatuner doesnt have cranking fuel enrichment or timing. i logged the load during cranking and played around with the VE table at the 500 rpm column at that load but it's not doing much to help.

Wrap you're car up in a blanket to keep it warm at night. From my understanding there's not much you can do E85 is just like that in the cold, everyone that i have know that has E85 has to do the same thing you do

i ran e85 on my Evo and never had much of an issue with cold start during winter. and it was straight e85, not winter blend.

Hmm, does starter fluid hurt the MAF sensor if sprayed at the filter. Or I can disconnect one of the vac hose behind the MAF and spray some in there

Yes starter fluid will kill you're MAF! Remove a hose behind the MAF if you plan to do that. This page may help also they talk about editing cold cranking fuel table to help with cold starting https://forum.hptuners.com/showthrea...-to-cold-start

Versatuner doesn't have cranking tables

There is a cranking table in Mazdaedit ...Ask Versatuner guy to find it and put it in .

so ambient temp was 25* in the morning at track this weekend. car would not start no matter how long i crank it, i even brought a spare battery to jump it. had to use starter fluid. unplugged one of the hose behind the MAF and sprayed some in and it starts right up but wont stay running. i had to keep spraying starter fluid to keep it running for about 20 seconds before it could stay idle on it's own. after that it runs fine. ambient temp got up to about 45* during the day. i would start the car up and let it stay warm if it i wasn't going to drive it within and hour.

I should have my new motor in next week and ill do some cold start videos for you on the adaptronic modular pnp ecu.

The VE table does not have so much influence in the cold start with oem ecu. I ran E85 for about 4 years in my rx8. Since 2016 E85 is gone away in germany...total stupied. I like that fuel so much.
Did you change the inj size for e85 right? The only what you can do, raise the inj size for about 10-20% bigger (--leaner) for the cold start and when the engine is getting warm, set it back to your first setting.

i'm running stock injectors and fuel pump. but i did change the injector scaling for e85. there's no tables on Versatuner that's specific to starting. only cold idle rpm. the only thing i saw i could change was the VE table at 500 rpm.

Thats what I mean the size of the injector in Ecu, the scaling. Try it out and make the scale little bit leaner like 10-20% for the cold start. Which actual AFR do you measure in the coldstart, its under 11 right?
