DBW Throttle body replacement found!

Hello all- I'm currently building a Lotus 7 replica based off an RX-8 and am fitting a Megasquirt 3 to the engine. One of the problems here is you can't use the drive by wire throttle with megasquirt. In researching this it looked like people were using throttle bodies from the now defunct star mazda series. Those TB's are few and far between and expensive at this point. I went on the hunt for a replacement and hit pay dirt. The throttle body from an 96-04 Mustang 4.6 is a direct bolt on. Cost was only $36 new off ebay. Only thing I had to do was remove the alignment pins from the manifold for the old throttle body.

Hope this info helps out some other people looking to replace the drive by wire setup.

Good find, sure some people will benefit.
What are you using to make a cable.

Interesting. I believe Team Rx8 mentioned something about the mustang throttle body when he went his quest for a metal upper intake manifold. I didn't put two and two together at the time. Nice find!

No idea on throttle cable at this point. I still need to figure out what I'm using for a gas pedal. Right now I only have the clutch and brake pedals installed.

Rx8 Megasquirt 3

Nice to see the use of a RX8 engine imaginatively. I'm currently fitting one in a 1985 rx7 fb, the throttle body tip is a good one. Hoping you can help, I'm looking to run a Megasquirt 3 also, do have any tips for getting this up and running ?, if you've got a map , that would be a great help. Thanks Andrew.

I'll start off by saying I haven't gotten mine running or even wired yet. It's been the last 6 weeks or so finishing up the exhaust. Having done a few megasquirt installs on other cars I wouldn't worry much about the fuel map. With a wideband it's very easy to sort. Timing though I was able to find a timing map. Unless you a turbocharging you can ignore the positive pressure points-

And here are some links I found with useful information-
