Data acquisition options/CANbus & RX8 compatible software

I am looking to buy this OBDII to USB cable:

What software packages are available (and preferably inexpensive) that can log all of the channels on the RX8 at a reasonable frequency (5+ Hz)?

How many channels can be logged simultaneously at the car's output frequency?

I am most interested in logging engine data to ensure the car is healthy and to decide if its worth the $$ for an accessport to reflash. That said, is there any PC based software that can reflash our ignition/fuel maps?

Does the '8 have built in xyz accelerometers? What about yaw, roll, pitch? I also noticed that the lower control arms appear to have height sensors?

Thanks!

There are plenty of complete OBD2 date logging devices and programes out there including aps for android and apple phones that will work with bluetooth obd2 readers. Most or all of them will let you log as many channels as you want, but I believe the output frequency starts to drop either because of the cars obd2 or the reader, not sure. Either way the device should tell you. Besides how many channels do you really need to look at and will you even know how to interpet the data?

The sensors on the control arms are fort the raction control and not readable through the obd2 or any other method as far as i am aware. To get suspension sensors, accelerometers and other such readings you will need to spend big bucks on aftermarket data logging equipment. Start your budget around $2k to be conservative.

Honestly, what are you after. What data are you trying to gather?

Sounds like you should just buy the AP and be done with it. It wil data log any and everything you need off the OBD2 and you can get a custom MM tune that might even extend the life of your engine depending on your currect flash.

Compression test the engine if you are interested in knowing how strong/weak it is.

The engine compression tested well in October. I would like to keep it that way. I just had an O2 go out on me and I would have noticed the problem a lot earlier if I was monitoring some basic channels.

I spoke to a friend who has been tuning his car with a similar cable. He assured me that the software is the limitation. He can log at 10Hz with the right software package but the bundled software was limited to <3Hz.

I guess there are two distinct categories for what I am trying to do:

1) Engine Health and Performance
a) Engine health (temps, afr, rpm, tps, misfires, knocks, mileage, omp?). I would like to do this first at the lowest cost possible. As for interpreting the channels: I am more of a chassis guy but am doing my best to learn this engine stuff. Fortunately, I have some friends who are powertrain calibration engineers.
b) AP with MM tunes if I decide I need more power, rpms, or throttle response.

2) Chassis Performance
a) Driver improvement (gps, ax, ay, swa, tps, brake pressure?)
b) Suspension improvement: roll, yaw, and shock pots to start but this is way down the line.

Are the wheel speed sensors accessible?

I am very much aware of the cost of a standalone system and sensors for chassis daq. I'm trying to get a sense of what the car can already give me.
