From what I got from them, TC would most likely be an add on card in the ECU that you could add in. They wouldn't get specific with me if the base ESU would or could handle the factory TC on it's own.

Since I will need the add in card slot for a second DBW card for my semi pports, TC is probably out for me right now. May be able to just use one of the stock intake port valves channels to just have an on/off, and add in TC though. I have to make that decision...

Hi there,

There is some information that is incorrect you have mentioned. Traction control will be available on all of the ECU's with a FREE software/firmware upgrade that should be coming out in the next few weeks once Andy has sorted out the best method of the functionality of the TC feature.

The Adaptronic Modular Rx8 unit has two small module spots available since the DBW and TC is integrated into the ECU. (TC data is taken over CAN from the ABS module) So you can install the second DBW module to control your PP ports and stage them so they open after X amount of throttle input ect and still have another slot if you need it.

Thanks,

Shawn Christenon

For TC it just uses acelerometers?

so all the factory wheel speed senors must be wired to the traction control module?

Will the TC implimentation be individual wheel braking and engine power cut? of just engine cut?

Hi,

I am trying to be clear as possible here - You do not need to install any modules to do traction control in the Rx8. Nor do you need to do any wiring. The ABS Module in the Rx8 provides all 4 wheel speed information to the Adaptronic ECU via CAN. If someone wanted to remove their ABS system that is when you would need to purchase a Real time monitor module and then you would wire in 4 speed sensors. But to clarify one more time You do not need to install any modules to do traction control in the Rx8.

Adaptronic just has not released the software/firmware update for it to function. This is a simple process as the Eugene software will update automaticly as long as you are connected to the internet and updating the firmware you will connect to the ECU via the USB cable and pull up Eugene -> click on the home tab -> then click the update FW button -> then select load -> Choose the modular folder -> choose the most recent updated firmware (which you can see if you sort by date) -> click open -> click load and wait for the progress bar to finish -> click verify. You will then exit out of the update FW boot loader and close eugene unplug your USB from your laptop and then reopen Eugene and plug the USB back in.

Once the ECU is connected in the lower left hand corner you will see a green bar showing you are connected to the ECU and the firmware version that is loaded onto the ECU.

Thanks,

Shawn Christenson

Good to know. I thought there was only 1 expansion slot available. Even better.

Another question for you while you're lurking. What about 8's that didn't come from the factory with TC like mine? Would I need the different ABS controller etc?

And will this ECU still support the immobilizer?

The ABS unit still monitoring 4 wheel speeds so the adaptronic will still allow you do ignition/dbw throttle body traction control. So the answer is YES

Yes under the functions tab you will go to the CAN tab and there will be an option to enable the immobilizer. When it is enabled it gives you an option to learn the immobilizer code. When the code is learned the car will still start but then it will die 5 seconds later if the code is not recognized.

Cheers,

One thing I do like about MAP tuning is that it doesn’t care where the air is coming from. Not really a fan of this idea though

Uniquer than the average .

Has less resistance to flow I guess but isn't N/A volumetric efficiency more about keeping velocities high ?

It was pretty fubar to do all that BP bs before testing it without first. They have some pics, a vid, and talk it up on their FB page, but as usual nothing “factual”, just feelz

All of these are en route to their new owners( except you Mark, just sorting our the logistics on your order).

Please if anyone has any problems call us so we can help you over the phone, or do a teamviewer remote sessions if needed.

Got my ecu in on Saturday, started her up late sunday with the new ecu. Shawn and Elliot have both been very helpful and reached out to me to let me know they will be available between these times during the weekend if I had any questions during the install. Shawn even logged onto the ecu last night to check over settings while she was runnings.
As it sits, ive never felt the car idle so smooth. With Cobb, I was easily 40+/- on rpm range. Atm I am 5+/- . I'm sure over time it may change. But to me that's incredible for a pnp unit.

I just need to finish up a couple things. Wire in wideband to the ecu and hook up fuel pressure sensor (which is pnp as well) then hopefully off to the Dyno for the remote tune!

Stock ecu removal

New ecu. Fits nicely in there

Pnp fuel pressure sensor

As is with the pnp unit with idle. Can see its very smooth. Little rich but that will all be fixed with the overall tune.

This information below on how to setup the injector staging is from an email discussion I had with Mark G @ Adaptronic Tech Support.

On my setup I intend to run P1 only up until the SSV opens, then drop P1 to 10% with SEC @ 50% and P2 @ 40% whenever the SSV open-rpm threshold is reached or higher. My reasoning for this is balanced flow fuel flow, both through the ports, but also as close as possible for injector position relative to the port. I had considered shutting down P1 completely and use 50% for both SEC and P2 for true balance, but had some concern that turning P1 completely on/off at the transition point might be prone to an occasional hiccup. Letting them operate some should avoid that issue. I have ID725 injectors for P1 and ID1300 injectors for both SEC and P2. So fuel flow will be equal between the P1/2 and SEC ports, but P1 will be contributing 10% directly at the housing with all the rest of the fuel coming in from higher up in the LIM. Might be over thinking it, but it’s easy to program that way.

————————————-

You will need to tune the staging maps for that. These examples should help.

1.)
RPM = 8300
Load = 101 KPa
All staging maps set to zero (default)
Primaries are used to optimum, then P2s, then Secs (default behaviour).

2.)
RPM = 4000
Load = 101 KPa
All staging maps set to zero (default)
Primaries are used to optimum.

3.)
RPM = 4000
Load = 101 KPa
Stage 2 injection map set to 50%.
Primaries and P2s now share fuel delivery.

4.)
RPM = 4000
Load = 101 KPa
Stage 2 injection map set to 100%.
P2s now deliver fuel alone.

5.)
RPM = 4000
Load = 101 KPa
Stage 2 and 3 injection maps set to 50% / 50%
P2s and secondaries share fuel delivery.

6.)
RPM = 4000
Load = 101 KPa
Stage 2 injection map set to 0%. Stage 3 map set to 100%
Secondaries now solely deliver fuel.

Hope these help, thanks!
Mark G

Not sure if you guys saw it, but that Rx8 from Greece with the second throttle body setup on the AUX ports hit the dyno with the modular ecu;

That did look like some decent results . Did they do any tests of a stock rx8 in good shape on the same dyno ? That would give a good indication on if the mods are worthwhile or not.

They have done several on that dyno. From what I recall a bolt on car( exhaust, intake, coils, tune etc) made 50 less BHP. I don't remember the exact number for the OEM cars that have dyno tuned there. This is currently the highest powered non turbo, non nitrous Rx8 in their country.

They’re supposedly claiming 265 hp now and probably at 10k, but this is also with bridge port intake and peripheral exhaust port housings. Kind of so-so considering and still subject to some scrutiny as far as comparing their results to any other rwd dyno results, no TQ numbers, or other specifics etc. They’re still screwing up the intake harmonics doing it the way they are too imo ... having seen stock port/intake Renesis motors with a pro built engine make the same or better rwhp up to 8500 rpm and on the retuned factory pcm no less ...
