I think I'd be in if it's priced similar to their piggybacks .

I didn't know it was replacing the stock ecu. I was under the impression that it was still a piggyback.

Woot ! pricing isn't going to be OTT !

Turblown Engineering : ETA is not available at the moment. In two weeks time the first unit will be tested at Adaptronic HQ. They still have to work out the OEM can interface. We believe the price will be around the same as the previous select, $1439. This is not set in stone yet.

We shall see how it develops the new Eugene software is definitely a huge improvement in terms of it's GUI.

I'm definitely curious to see how their DSC implementation holds up compared to Mazda's. Considering it was one of the more highly regarded features of the car.

The DSC is controlled entirely by the ECU, right? Or is there a separate module used for it?

Fortunately for me zero fudge is given for DSC, but for the people who may need it there's a separate module integrated in the engine bay ABS hydraulic controller assembly, plus it gets a ton of inputs from other sources.

I'm inclined to believe that Adaptronic has the resources to figure it out.

However, over in the steering thread you implied that sniffing the CAN and figuring it all out is a piece of cake. In reality despite numerous attempts, including one company that claimed to have a controller and offering it up for pre-sale then disappeared from the scene as fast as they arrived, everybody else who tried hasn't managed to do so yet. Most of those people are just general enthusiasts who thought it was that easy too.

I'll admit I hadn't bothered looking at the documentation for this stuff, I assumed the ABS module controlled just the ABS.

Sniffing the CAN itself is a joke, and simply a matter of wiring the connections to the hardware required to do it. The "hard" part is actually reverse engineering the messages going back and forth. I do have quite extensive experience reverse engineering undocumented protocols. I wouldn't call it "easy" but I definitely don't find it difficult to do. Perhaps I mis-represented the difficulty involved for the average person.

There's also the potential to disassemble the ECU code itself, which would also detail exactly what needs to be sent over. It's mostly an issue of time and persistence, not so much difficulty.

Personally I would consider this much easier than other jobs I've done in the past as the protocol itself is 100% fully documented and standardized. When I get my carPC and sensors sorted out I'll probably give it a shot. If for no other reason than "nobody else could do it".

Edit: Thanks for the diagrams, that clears up quite a bit. Couldn't look at them before. With it being a separate module, I don't see any reason adaptronic couldn't get it working without a ton of custom code.

Hi guys, maybe wrong thread, but dunno where else to post it (not allowed to start my own thred).
I am looking into tuning ECU of my rx8 - nothing hard core, just cooling fan activation, OMP, launch control and other little stuff. 500+ dollars for solution is quite high imho.
What do you think of this - Multi-Diag Access J2534? Or i am looking the wrong way?

I am planning nothing hardcore, just change cooling fan activation temp, OMP feeding rate, maybe launch control activation etc. Nothing to do with fuel/air maps etc.

Doubt it will do what you want . How much is it ?

Is there anything cheaper than Mazdaedit? Or 500+ is my only real option?
