It will work on a PC...if your buddy has a PC..you are good :)

ShellDude 04-14-2012 08:38 PM

I run it in a Parallels Windows 7 (and previously an XP) x64 virtual machine with no issues.

wcs 04-14-2012 08:39 PM

I do find it very funny that you weren't smart enough to look in to this before you purchased the AP.

LoL

Again try wine or buy a copy of parallels

willnordacgreen1211 04-14-2012 08:49 PM

I know now not to assume highly rated tuning companies are aware of the existance of mac...

ok so just to clarify I CAN use my ap on a buddies computer with aces tuner that he also uses for his own ap on?

either way im gonna get wine tonight and see how that works.

RX8Soldier 04-14-2012 09:14 PM

^yes, you can use ANY computer that can access TUNER. Unlike MM maps, TUNER is not locked to a specific computer...

It didn't? Shit sorry, I was sure I had ATR running on my backtrack box.

Mmmmmm

Have you tried VirtualBox from Oracle?

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

It's a bit more complicated to setup than Parallels but its free.
You'll still need a copy of windows to install in to a virtual guest.

EricB 04-15-2012 01:27 PM

i run windows 7 on my mac and it runs fine.

torrent VMware Fusion, it lets you run windows 7 at the same time, think of windows 7 as a open program. It comes with norton anti virus, though i just made a 2gb partitian and if i get a virus i just delete it and re download.

ill try this. im also going to see what happens if I download ap manager for windows as well. the ATR program opens just fine with wine but wont recognize the ap is plugged into the computer for some reason.

wcs 04-15-2012 03:38 PM

The atr doesn't recognize the ap when its plugged in on win doze either.
You save ur map and use the ap manager software to load it onto the ap device.

Now if the ap manager doesn't recognize the device then u have an issue

ShellDude 04-15-2012 04:12 PM

There's free version of vmware (player) that would likely work too.

And you could also go the bootcamp route.

oh well then im having a diferent issue. when opening ATR it tells me to connect the ap and when it wont recognize it it closes out the program

You have two basic options with your hardware.

1. dual boot. You will need an installation disc of Windows OS of some version. Ubuntu or similar Linux distro will not work for this situation

2. virtualization. You will need virtualization application such as VMWare or Parallels and, depending on the virtualization solution you use likely will need the installation disc from the first option (this will be true unless you use something like WINE but bear in mind that a great many Windows applications make calls that WINE still can't handle)

If AccessTuner was available as a compilable Linux app, porting it to run in the BSD layer of Mac OS X would be a reasonable option to look into; but I can't see CobbTuning exposing their source code like that.

I know a few people who use Mac hardware with Ubuntu as their primary OS. If that is your situation, let us know and I'll come up with some suggestions on virtualization apps for your situation.

Oh ya I forgot about that part during the install the ATR wants to marry to the ap and dongle. Not sure why exactly, maybe for the dongle for doing art live data logging.

Anyways there is a way around it

I had too do it to get the 2004 atr version installed.
I didn't have a dongle or ap for the 2004 version I just clicked thru it and it still installed the file directory. I then copied someone else's 2004 atr files in that directory.

Try installing the software on a windoze box and just copy the binaries over to the wine directory.

willnordacgreen1211 04-15-2012 05:13 PM

thanks for all the suggestions guys! im gonna fool around with it some more tonight.

i already got tuned so its not a primary issue anymore but i still really want to have ATR running on my machine
