DIY: Video: Front Bumper Removal

Here's another video that I made, tells you how to remove the front bumper from the car. Video is around 20 minutes but in actuality if you know what to do, it takes all of 10-12 minutes to get the bumper off.

Comments or feedback welcome.

Mod Edit: that video link doesn't work anymore. Try this one:

great video.. I'll be keeping this thread bookmarked so I can post it to everyone who asks about removing the bumper. Great job and thanks for taking the time to do it.

Another update to this DIY post is on the way, I've made a 30 minute Video that is about the same clarity but I used a base when filming to reduce any vibrations and light and angles will be a bit better. The whole process takes around or under 15 minutes but I talk alot in the videos to make sure you can follow through with every step as I do. This new video will also show how to remove the headlight assembly after the front bumper removal... Hope to have it uploaded by tomorrow evening...

excellent video....but i hope this isnt too of topic...just need a yes or no explanation...
not to be a dumbass or anything...but if i were to put a grill in the front of the rx8 below the normal grill on the right and left sides of the rotary emblem, would that be bad for the air thingor whatever? like would there not be enough air flow/ would i be risking f-ing up the engine?

gh8st Jan 24, 2009 10:46 AM

wow GREAT video. i was looking to do this so i can paint my emblem but was really hesitant to.. this video makes me feel way better

Not at all, I put mesh in mine that I got from rx8strakes.com and it was fine. Main thing you don't really want to obstruct is the oil radiators on the sides but people put screens there no problem. You still need airflow but mesh shouldn't be a problem. If you decide to get the mesh from r8xstrakes.com make sure you drill into the bumper so you can hold it on with the twisty ties that way because the adhesive doesn't hold up to the wind pressure.

I have a feeling that alot of people feel that way and that's why I decided to make this video to show how easy it is to take off the front bumper. Thanks =)

not possible unless you have long ass arms and can reach through the oil cooler ducts on the sides. As the video shows, it's very easy to remove it. I'd advise you to just take off the front bumper so you can do it right the first time. Especially if you want it to stay on, you'll have to drill into the black plastic so you have some place to run your twisties through. If you use the adhesive mounts they won't hold up to the pressure from the wind.

ya i was afraid of that. but it seems to be something i must do...take off the bumper=\ any advice on installing a grill to the bak bumper?

kainis2k Jan 27, 2009 04:21 AM

like a mesh grill? I got the ones from strakes that have little rotary accents and I think it looks awesome vs any grill. The exhaust isn't very attractive imo.

Some people on the boards think LEDs in the rotary logo look ricey but if it's done right and the LEDs are hidden, I could see it being cool. Important this is how you like it. Make a post, up some pics and link us if you do. :) I don't blame you for buying your own, strakes is expensive lol. I was a noob at the time though and didn't wanna go through the trouble. (Still am a noob haha)

This a very concise DIY, it will help to replace the HID bulbs more safer and easier.
-thanks a lot for taking the time to do it.

NavyShinka Jan 4, 2010 12:26 PM

Outstanding video!! I just blew a HID and talked to the machanic about it. When he said the bumper had to come off I thought I was going to have to have him do it. I checked the DIY first and saw your video. Thanks!
