i did not go out and feel the shaft, im not like that. i did take off the knob and look under the boot and low and behold there it was. i thought it was between the plate that bolts to the frame and the frame. thought i saw a pic of it like that.

anyway damn if that doesnt help, how do it do dat?????
guess that is my mod of the week and free, thx.

btw, hymee scanalizer very very cool. cant wait till i get it all figured out.

Sounds like I need to try this mod!!!

Btw, swoope, just when you get it all worked out, we'll have the new version ready with more bells, whistles and functionality!

Cheers,
Hymee.

One would think that taking out the insulation would be wrong. But remember that this mod was thought up by an Aussie and since gravity works different down there maybe it's some sort of Aussie VooDo from the Outback.

From an engineering point of view I am at a loss. But everyone says it works even up here on this side. ;)

swoope 10-06-2005 10:14 PM

yea,
i got an email in already, the beta thing, been doing the beta thing for years with flt sims. and a suggestion.

as to the green thing, between that and the syn fluid i put in the tranny the shifting is perrrrrrfect.

hope to get down under early next year. hope not to come back.

beers

Put my short shifter in last night - fantastic! Click here for my little report...

kwescott 10-13-2005 08:12 PM

easiest fricken upgrade ever. 15 minutes.....yeah. Just went for a drive and 2nd to 3rd is awsome....4th to 5th is weird cause you don't have to shove the stick over anymore...it's almost like you're going into third again.

wow.

Thanks for the DIY.

Gomez 10-13-2005 08:51 PM

My pleasure...... :) .

FE3P 10-28-2005 08:06 PM

Excellent DIY Gomez!!! :ylsuper: I could have done the installation in about 20 minutes, except I broke that damn tab! hahaha

I also want to note the very high quality and craftsmanship of this AFE short shifter. Richard Paul, you did an excellant job! :score:

Thanks Fanman for the hook-up! :)

XDEEDUBBX 11-01-2005 12:19 PM

i gotta get me one...i tried it out on fanmans car and it was nice! :101384_l: :101384_l: :101384_l: :101384_l:

kwescott 11-01-2005 12:57 PM

reverse is always a little tricky getting into..but the rest of the gears are fun.

Mikelikes2drive 12-08-2005 11:12 PM

what do u do if u break the tab???

kwescott 12-09-2005 12:19 AM

Nothing...just say damn. I would assume you may have a rattle coming your way is all....

FE3P 12-09-2005 10:48 AM

Actually, my dumb ass broke the tab, so I glued it back together with Gorilla Glue! So far, it's been holding and no rattles!

XDEEDUBBX 01-28-2006 03:39 PM

i will finally have one by next month! bout dam time...

Gomez 01-30-2006 02:48 AM

Yep, you have been slack.... :)

Regards the demon tab, don't sweat too much if you break it. I know a few who have and no-one has reported any rattle problems.

sco 01-30-2006 03:48 AM

I managed to break the tab on Wildcard's car... and swapped his cover for mine (with a good tab still intact). I've had a rattle or two from it but don't think it will be hard to eliminate.

The trick to not breaking the tab is to follow Mazda's instructions and use a tape covered screwdriver between the console cover and fake aluminium strip to pry the cover up. I didn't do this on this one occasion and suffered the broken tab.

Richard Paul 01-30-2006 09:51 AM

Start from the front and you will not break the tab.
Very galant of you SCO to give him your cover. :icon_tup:

I would suggest adding that to the DIY in bold. I remember doing that when I installed the PIE converter, but forgot about it when doing the shifter install. I have done two shifter installs, and have broken the tab once. Not a good success/fail records. No major rattles though, yet.

Richard Paul 01-30-2006 12:28 PM

I have to convince Gomez of it first. It's his thread not mine. Maybe he can try it and see if it works. Then he can discribe it better then I.
Busy Gomez??
Thing to Gomez are you there?
