Awesome work. The best-looking reservoir solution yet, IMO. Looks like as if it was stock.
Is this also an oil reservoir for that scooter? Where did you get it? I was trying to find it but didn't know what exactly to look for... or maybe my search skills are impaired  |
Thank you Tamas :)
Yes, this reservoir is originally a two stroke oiltank of this scooter. http://www.scooterinvasion.net/forum...pic.php?t=1743 |
very nice job, thank you for the relevant contribution, tanks from outboard motors and ATVs might be other options
|
Thank you TeamRX8 :)
Some details to the reservoir: 0,9 Liter volumen, 3 mm wall (strong enough and unbreakable). The clear hose is 470 mm long, has 2 mm wall, internal diameter is 11mm. |
Was this just a one-off chance you got this reservoir, or do you know a source where it can be purchased from? I don't seem to be able to find this part. Do you know the part number?
Even then, fabricating the bracket is probably tricky enough, but first things first... |

looks great!
Might I recommend you add vocabulary to the DIY? (ie materials used, rough price estimate, tools needed, and maybe instructions) Pics "should" be sufficient, but we all know how people are these days ;) I don't want to sound like a nag, but it's what the DIY forum is for (to help the "needy" lol) |
Well done sir, well done.
That looks like the solution Mazda SHOULD have equipped the car from the factory. (it is not easy to make a modification look OEM. & you have done it beautifully; even maintaining the functionality of the plastic engine cosmetic cover. Bravo. I'm now in the hunt for a SOHN adapter, & a dio oil tank... |
Thanks for that corres78. Nice solution!
|
Looks good, I wish someone would just make a solution and sell it. I have gone through a couple of setups and still have not found the perfect solution.
|
^^ I suggested the same thing to corres78 on the German forum already but it doesn't look like this will happen... apparently it is not that easy for him to make this a product. I can understand that... getting a reliable source for the tanks and fabricate the bracket en masse may pose problems. And then there would be a need to have a certain guaranteed number of customers buying it too.

Did you try Googling "oil injection tank" for ideas? Stuff is all over the internet
|
I just ran across this....what is it for? I understand that it holds oil...and I know our cars require a little bit of oil to be injected into the ports...is this just a supplemental tank that just delivers more oil to the ports...if so where does it tie into? I hope I dont sound too dumb lol

You do sound dumb. Search noob. |
yes, less posting and more searching and reading for Lil' Billy

Here is my under $30 Lowe's special Sohn adapter oil reservoir with a modified oil level indicator from a Kawasaki jet ski oil tank. I fail at every paint job it seems but I just wanted something to hide the white/primer/glue. This only a temporary solution until I know how the components will fit in my engine bay next fall.

Based on the looks, I would have never guessed that this is a Sohn oil reservoir :)

I think if you saw the size of the Jet Ski tank you might understand. I purchased it thinking it might fit under the hood of my car and it was the size of a 5 gallon gas can (only $10 on ebay with the electronic level so I can't complain.) Since I am unsure of how my engine accessories will be placed in the upcoming months I didn't want to devote any more time researching or money into something that will not be permanent. |

Hi everyone!
This is my oil reservoir for Sohn adapter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vA3Jv2YTW9A The reservoir is from a Honda Dio AF18 Scooter. It has an oillevelsensor too. How it's made: http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...287d1c75150881 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...24ed7b21e725ee http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...761121aef731ce http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...8e694c0fd63540 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...14dae5302372c2 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...c78d1ae87b1c8f http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...6f0e3e51ddad42 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...8f9d19b3637907 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...aa301e56414ace http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...205eb95da2c2c6 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...173ca2796c7455 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...2c910408b9a02e http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...5adb9563c508a5 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...df9d09932e78c8 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...8c315a121f6472 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...f06668e0b4adb1 The reservoir is a little bit shaky yet, but it's not a tragic. :) Wow.. by far the best solution. How did you make that bracket? |
It finally works!!
Many thanks for all your nice comments guys! :)
The system is since yesterday in work and it everything seems to be nice! :Peace: The oillevel sensor is not installed yet. (The reservoir is since ca. 2000 km (1300 miles) / 2.5 Months in the car without any problem!) http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...7e605ff50b8182 http://www.rx8forum.de/index.php?pag...5399a150d03b49 |
did you also use that oil level sensor?
how did you hook up the sensor? |
I am planning on installing a sohn adapter soon so I am looking at the different oil tank/reservoir solutions people have used in the past. What is the feeling on the need for a sensor? Do people feel the extra complexity and wiring mods are worth it?

Tank looks great. Nice find

Sohn Adapter oil reservoir solution
2 Attachment(s)
Back in 2012, I started to think about installing a Sohn adapter and then finally did it this past summer.
One of the things that held me back was all of the options for installing an oil reservoir. I ended up following an example that utilized the windshield wiper fluid reservoir space but wasn't happy with how it looked. I kept iterating on it and finally settled on using a carved aluminum panel to hold both the oil and washer containers. The first attached pic shows my RX-8's installation. Since my prototype came out so well, I thought I'd put together a kit for sale that includes the back plate, containers, tubing and hardware. The first 30 are in production now. While I don't have a photo of the finished product yet, the second attached pic is the CAD drawing. I've contacted the operators of this site for info on how to become a vendor and listed the first set of kits on eBay too. |
