just put one of these in last week, black 350ml for $20 shipped on ebay, exit hose dumps the fumes out of the engine bay

@ GS, if you have the jet air line involved with the vent, the result is a hell of a vacuum leak.
I checked mine. Line runs from intake to can, then can to jet air, filler and OMP vent. Most of oil fumes should get burned through Jet Air line, what is left ends up in can. Can has to be full to get to intake.
Made my own catch can out of a aluminum water bottle, 2 NPT fittings, level reader, some JB weld and a can of paint. Total cost was under $20, only really took a hour besides leaving the JB weld to cure and paint to dry... gunna mount where the air pump sits.
I have a 2005 6 Speed with about 15,000 miles on it...hardly ever drive it.
When I do drive it I rev the engine up to about 8K and am by no means light-footed with the car. After reading the "Catch-Can" information (this is my first post...so I hope I am doing it correctly) it made sense to eliminate any Blow-By from getting into the intake.
After examining the air hose intake assembly I was extremely surprised to see that it was clean with no evidence of oil whatsoever (see pics).
I decided to install a Catch-Can anyhow and used 3/8 braided PVC to keep an eye on the lines.
I do have the MSP 16 Flash done...and assuming this would cause more Blow-By to be evident I am puzzled.
Any insight as to why am I not seeing any Blow-By residue would be most appreciated.
The "blow by" condition only affects 2004-2005 RX8s if memory serves correctly. Later models do a bit more routing of the oil vent before dumping it into the intake.
There was a (re)discussion of this just a week or two ago. A TSB was issued at one point that allows 2004 and 2005 8s to retrofit the 06+ change. You end up tapping into the nipples on the LIM rather than the accordion tube.
Also, while I certainly suffer from occasional blow by, there are certain forum members here that swear it is not natural and we all must be smoking crack to be concerned about it.
Given that my RoXy Ocho is only 2 days old for me , still parked out front and I haven't gotten her to start yet... Upon removal of the accordion tube to remove and access the ignition coils I did find it and everything else below it just saturated with oil... Realizing it was coming from the hose leading to the filler neck, I naturally searched "oily intake" to find this brilliant diy solution and after reading through 85% of all replies... (now hence title) Seems to me that aside from not over filling the oil, that the best place for the oil is inside the engine block and pan where it belongs... And since everyone seems to agree that vacuum plugging the intake port is completely safe and recommended, why not just vacuum plug the filler neck port using either a flanged rubber interior plug or the exterior style vacuum plug shown in the OP photos and then simply reconnect the hose to the filler neck , thus hiding the plug from any pesky warranty voiders and just as pesky smog technicians, negating any need for overflow canisters or hose routing. Anyways thanks to all for verifying that I'm fine blocking that vacuum port to the intake however I will be blocking it at the filler neck and hiding the plug/mod from CA smog test centers and let the PCV valve do it's job to expel the gases to the manifold while keeping the oil where it belongs...
Yeah I did just notice reply #155? But I did say 85% read.... Still think that the pcv lines and valve should be sufficient but I do need to reference the diagrams before I actually plug it, otherwise catch can does solve the intake problem and I can always throw the original hose on once every two years when I put the cat back on for smog.
Installed my 750 ml polished catch can w/ breather ($34 Amazon) over the weekend. I've the P2070 CEL, and am in process of diagnosing root cause. Valve movement & actuator appear good. Will t-shoot solenoid & switch next. Once again...appreciate all those willing to share the knowledge & experience to help us maintain, enhance, & enjoy our 8s.

I'm looking to do the same thing to my 08 and after reading many threads it appears it is still helpful, perhaps just not as much. I'm still struggling to completely wrap my head around this for our series 2. From what I've gathered, the earlier design is below with the blue hose being the one to put a catch can along. My issue is I can't find anything to help me understand how to do this in the later years aside from a few different explanations as to what to do. I can't find a manual like this that shows the updated hose routing either, which I could probably figure out from there. I'll keep digging and see if I can find anything. I feel like I'm searching through the remains of a lost civilization when I search through this forum. Everyone had their own opinion on how to do things and now they are all gone lol.. Let me know if you find anything!
What I don't get is how oil go into my intake.....maybe i did overfill while not using a funnel......BUT.....the hose off the Oil fill neck does not go to the Accordian Intake hose, like all have mentioned, My hose from the oil fill neck goes down to a T that goes into the service ports on the lower intake.
Is this correct routing for this? I still plan to run a catch can and capping those service ports.

Is there a another Vaccum line that can cause this? There are 3 lines on my intake accordian hose. None are capped. Hard to physically see down the hoses, but none seem to have oil in them.
So the oil blow back off the Oil fill neck leading to my service ports on the lower intake, can cause oil to blown all the way through my upper intake?
Is this a sign of the SSV being stuck open/closed.
I only had oil come into the intake after redlining it.
Took off the upper intake and cleaned all the oil out. and reinstall.
But still have oil getting in there. According to my dipstick, oil level is actually low.
