DIY: Offset License Plate Mount, Cheap!
so since ive been getting alot of PM's lately regarding my license plate mount i decided to post up a quick DIY!
i know it sucks for anyone that requires a front plate cause the stock mounting position is awful, and im from NJ which makes it not fun for me either so basically you can go from this.... http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...66767_2035.jpg to this with one trip to home depot. http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...d/DSC_0002.jpg the way i did it was by using two metal L brackets. like these below https://i.pbase.com/u13/panotaker/up...3.Bracket5.jpg or http://www.mcwoods.com/catalog/_L_Bracket.jpg next i drilled out holes on one side of the L brackets so i could bolt the license plate flush with them, having the other side of the L bracket on the bottom of the plate, facing backwards behind the plate. then i took the license plate / bracket combo and found the spot where i wanted it the sit on my bumper, marked two holes on each side under the front lip and drilled out the nessacary holes in the bracket. next i predrilled all 4 holes, then had a friend hold the assembly as i used two small tapping screws on each side to bolt it down. i mounted it so the plate was pretty much flush with the front of the bumper...or all the way back...because of this i adding some 3M double sided tape between the back of the plate and the bumper to reduce vibrating and scratching BTW jacking the front end up a little helps alot more pictures below.... hope this helps someone! http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...d/DSC_0130.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...d/100_1861.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...d/DSC_0200.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...DSC_0016-1.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...d/DSC_0006.jpg http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f1...DSC_0017-1.jpg NOTE: this was done on my car which has the front lip from the appearance package. This provides a great surface to mount on. I cannot speak on how well this will work on 8's w/o the front lip |
