So I removed the head unit again, took it apart, and tried re-soldering the ground and left channels. I put the HU back in my car, but the unit was dead - no power, nothing lightning up. So I took the HU out again, took it apart, and removed the soldering. Put it back together, and put it back in my car. Now the HU powers up when I turn on my car, the front panel lights work, and the stereo makes the beeping noises when I use try to use the steering wheel controls, but other than that, the HU is still not working. None of the modes (radio, cd) work and the display, though backlit, remains blank (no Hello! message). Any suggestions, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy a new HU?

P.S.
I tried this hack because I had a long road trip coming up and couldn't wait for Overload's AUX IN module, which I still plan on installing when it becomes available

my install kind of went the way yours did. i just found that my HUD wire was loose. it was still making beeping and working too.. the connector was loose and BOOM! it worked once it was secure.

I bought this Mazda 3 5mm Earphone Mini Jack Aux in Audio Input Adapter for MP3 Player Phone | eBay, Installed it, but the TAPE/MD button doesnt do anything when pressed. Am I missing something? I have a 2004 Rx8 w/ 6 disc in dash.

It says it plugs into the CD changer port. You'd have to disconnect the CD changer and use that button for input. It won't work through the TAPE/MD port. That's why the Auxmod is a more complicated/expensive solution (but a good one).

This cable is 120cm long with Mazda connector on one end and 3.5mm male headphone jack inputs on the other.
Play your music through your Mazda head unit (must have CD changer input on the back of car radio).
Just plug one end of this cable into the CD changer input in the back of your stereo and the other end to the mini jack input on the device.
You can't connect a CD Changer to the head unit at the same time while this cable is connected.
Control and display remain on the audio device -- the Mazda headunit will NOT control or display text.

I second that. Thanks again for the suggestion G-ReX. I wish I'd done it as soon as I bought my car back in Feb. I love my Auxmod.

cassette hack - Mazda6

Hello, I have Mazda6 2002 with cassette player and no CD, and would like to make AUX input from this cassette.
But do knot now what and how.
I can not see any pictures in the thread, do not know why.
I have registered into the forum, but still no pictures.

Could you help and give me some advice?
My email address is martin.joch@seznam.cz

I have tried to fool the cassette deck, took one cassette, took out everything from inside - tape, wheels, etc. but the cassette deck is somehow smart, it did find out and wrote: CHECK TAPE.

The second try was to close the tape drawer as a cessette is inside, and I have disconnected both motors, but it wrote: NO TAPE.
This japanese piece of electronic is somehow smart.
Thank you very much.
Martin

If you have done the mods, I would suggest you buy a cassette aux adapter that is a cassette with a cable attached for aux in. You just insert it in the cassette desk and then plug your device into the cable that hangs out the front. If your other aux-in now plays the music you can just cut the cable off from the cassette with aux in cable and you have a clean finish. If it doesn't play your aux-in, just use the cable. Not as nice, but functional. They cost about $10.

Here are the pictures of what I did.

I follow the instructions that appears on whatmyip.org On the picture page 14 you will find the terminal solder where the job need to be done. You will see a Left Audio, Right Audio and Shared Ground.

I buy the 3.5mm Aux cable with the female jack. I cut off the white connector and solder the cable to the Left Audio, Right Audio and Shared Ground. (Please see the pictures).

To the Left Audio, the cable that need to be solder from the white connector is the white cable.

To the Right Audio, the cable that need to be solder from the white connector is the yellow cable.

To the Shared Ground, the cable that need to be solder from the white connector is the red cable.

After that I resemble the radio back and install it in the car. Please follow the whatmyip.org instructions.

Then I run the 3.5 Aux cable underside the center console until the rear box. I remove the lighter, drill the plastic and put the female jack. (Please see the pictures).

Put a "Silence CD" into the radio and play the music from your phone.

And that's all.
