As long as gas doesn't come out you are fine. Unfortunately, you usually find out when you have filled it and it is hot out. Then when it expands it is hard to stop if it is not tight enough.

You could note how far it is on, take it off and put some kind of lubricant on the thread. I used white litium grease, but I don't know if that is appropritate or not. What it allowed was to get it tighter and hopefully to make it easier to get off then next time.

What is the trick to those green and blue connectors? There has to be an easy way to get them off?

The blue one is kicking my *** right now.

just got a real quick question. what do i need to disconnect the fuel lines to the pump. do i need a special tool or can i use something else? im going to be cleaning the sock filter tomorrow night and wanted to know what i was getting into.

The connectors look more complex than they are....

They are just held together by two **** on the colored piece, that stick thru the black plastic to catch the inner barb - you can clearly see one of the **** on the green connector, on page one of this thread.

GENTLY spread the colored piece, then rotate it so the **** can't go back into their holes, then pull the male part out. Break the colored clip, don't come crying here.

I cleaned my sock yesterday, and used this tool after not being able to get the ring loose with a hammer and a screwdriver:

Great Neck OEM 25156 Fuel Pump Module Spanner Wrench - Amazon.com

It looked a lot more solid than the one that was posted earlier in the thread. The good news is it works. The bad news is the size of it is such that after breaking it loose, you have to disconnect and reattach every few notches until it's loose enough that the screwdriver and hammer (and then eventually your hands) work. But I'm glad I made the purchase.

Any chance this would make a car not able to start? Had a misfire code recently and car would randomly stall on a cold start but would eventually start and would then run real rough until it's warmed up. Now it won't start at all. Could this be bad fuel filter or bad fuel pump?

got a fuel pump at autozone for 200 with lifetime guaruntee(sp?)
still couldnt get the godamn ring off, tried penetrating oil, tried using a shammy wipe to give the key a better grip, just wont budge and tabs keep breaking. hopefully this doesnt mean i need a new o ring -_-

I did this yesterday . Easy the ring it should tAke 20 min with some tools . W40 first let it sit for a bit ,I used a hard squeegee about 2"wide and 4"long bang it hard with hammer then use a big flat screw driver hit it left all around while someone twisted it same time and it will come out . If a bit harder keep switching from rubber squeegee to flat head screw driver . And it will work

I would bet it's more crap in your fuel than the pre-mix.

I have pre-mixed with different oils over about 90K and never seen anything like that

you saw in on teh intrawebz so it must be true, no?

what you actually saw is some guy open up fuel pump, show you a dirty filter, and then pull a rabbit out of his buttocks ... no proof, nothing, just his esteemed word for it

the biggest premix issue is people not doing it right i.e. pouring oil in the tank and then pumping gas in assuming it mixes up no problem ... not

that's one of the reasons I generally try to convince the avg street jockey not to do it.

I think this DIY thread would be easier to find if it were Retitled with "Fuel Pump" featured.
I was looking for a fuel pump DIY, & this one seems to be the best one.

The sock is only a pre-filter on an S1. The actual S1 filter can't be cleaned or replaced. This thread fails on almost all accounts. If it works as a fuel pump diy then that's its only redeeming value.

So I just replaced mine almost 3 or 4 months ago and it's back at it is this the premix I'm using, or does it normally need to be cleaned that often
