Would you trust a car sponsorship website?

Last night i was at the local subway with some friends and a new civic rolled up that looked awesome and sounded great (....can u belive that lol...) so when he walked in i complemented him on his car. He said thanks bro and asked if i would like to see it. He opened the hood and it was loaded! turbo, headers, (from what he said, i couldn't see) cams, crankshaft, pistons, valves....he said there was about 10 grand in the engine and it had 325 to the wheels. he also had a tastefully done body kit...which is hard to believe but this was actually a civic i liked. But anyway, i asked him how he made the money for all his upgrades (he was only 17 or so) and he said, I'm sponsored. Then i proceeded to ask him questions and the conversation lead to him telling me about www.carsponsorships.com and how they sent him 10 grand worth of goodies for his car. He said that all he had to do was pay 150 bucks on a website, wear a tee-shirt with companies names on it twice a month, go to local car shows, and put stickers on his car of the companies that sponsored him. my question is, would you trust this website with $150 at a chance to possibly get a ton of free stuff? I'm just curious for everyones opinions. i put this in the aftermarket performance mods because it has to do with practically free engine mods.

summary: guy rolled up in a nice civic and he was sponsored by a website (www.carsponsorships.com) The website supposedly gave him 10k worth of free mods. Would you guys trust the website enough to give out some of your personal information? (IE credit card number and $150)

No , he got the money for mods from scamming people on that website....lol. But seriously i doubt thats true. So what if hes only 17? Im 18 and i have an rx8 and saving some cash from my job....age means nothing.

tajabaho1 12-15-2007 03:03 PM

what the hell? that website looks kinda wierd man, I won't trust it

ivory8 12-15-2007 03:04 PM

well im 16 myself and if he made 10 grand himself to spend on his civic i was curious to how he got it so i could go on the same path as he did so i can fix up the 8. the fact that he was only 17 was a side note but, just had to put it in there.

tajabaho1 12-15-2007 03:19 PM

so ur telling me that u pay 150$ to this website, and they'll give u 10k in mods?!?!

..........they don't seem to get anything out of it so what the hell u know?

IcarusX8 12-15-2007 03:26 PM

no. though i wouldnt mind getting a $10k check, i dont like advertising for anyone such as stickers, shirts, etc. i'll save up the money on my own.

its not necessarily that, the website is a middle man..they put up your car and contact companies letting them know of the current cars they have on their websites that are looking for sponsorship for advertisements.note: im not defending the website what so ever but im just giving out information so that people can make an educated decision on your opinion of the site.

basically the website makes 150 bucks to call a few places a month and ask for upgrades. you probably cant do this yourself because you are not a company that ensures that their products will be advertised.

tajabaho1 12-15-2007 03:53 PM

I see, so you get HALF off the first year, that makes much more sense

if that is the case this site is possibly feasible

This means you get half off the list price for parts you want and the other 50% comes from the "sponsoring" companies who are part of the consortium. You are beholden to attend 4 events per year, sometimes more, where you can prove via photographs you were there repping the products. If you're lucky, the following year your hard work is rewarded with greater percentages as part of the sponsorship and, eventually, you can get a 100% sponsorship. HOWEVER, keep in-mind that, like everything else worthwhile, you must bust your ass, shed blood, live, eat, and breathe the car show/race scene in order to prove yourself.

This is the nature of the competitive free-market system and one many cannot tolerate despite living in America. Your rewards are directly proportional to the efforts you put into it.

great info, i didnt realize how strenuous it was for these sponsorships. maybe its best to submit 1 closer to summer when i have more time. my mother works for the newspaper so getting a pic or 2 of myself in there for advertisment may be difficult but not tooooo hard. thx for ur input

nycgps 12-15-2007 05:34 PM

If its really that easy, I can think about it too

but I have question about the 150 bux fee. because this 150 bux sound like pure profit for the site.

ivory8 12-15-2007 06:28 PM

^---well put, they kind of advertise you and get your name out to all the companies.

BigRed 12-15-2007 10:04 PM

it is still extremely strenuous though... imo, definitely not worth it if you are in school because it takes too much time, and you have to travel...

Not to mention you can loose a lot of say in what happens with your car. They give you a bodykit and you have to install or risk loosing your sponsorship, even if it's a butt-ass ugly kit.

And if you miss a show or don't meet your sponsors requirements, they are quick to send you a bill for all your parts.

laythor 12-15-2007 11:28 PM

You're much better off joining a car club that already goes to shows as a club. Most clubs will let you do whatever you want to your car as long as it's within their "rules". Sponsors will go looking for winning clubs and offer then sponsorship. Also, if you're looking at a particular product it sounds a whole lot better to email them saying "i'm from blah-blah club and we've won best in show, first place, etc.. in these events...."

nycgps 12-17-2007 01:29 AM

True true.

I still have to find some time to fix all the dents that me and my gf(!?) made to both sides ...

plus gotta fix up the side skirts on both sides ... freaking snow last year knocked it off a bit, yep almost a year still havent fix it yet :(

b4 then, there is no way my car can attend any *show*. Its just gonna look really bad

VolcomStoneX 12-17-2007 08:59 AM

this is crazy, i filled out a application for it too, they called me right away, but i seemed "too easy" to get all that free stuff

chetrickerman 12-17-2007 09:04 AM

i wouldnt care if they paid me 10 grand, i would never throw stickers on my car. looks stupid

tajabaho1 12-17-2007 09:41 AM

and to the end user, once you go in, you become another "personnel" of sort and your car is just another "model". So in the end, you satisfy your modding needs by getting free mods in return, you work for them. So, in the end, it is just like working for your mods, maybe a bit cheaper, if not the same price..........

lovely

chetrickerman 12-17-2007 09:50 AM

yes you get free mods, but you cant mod your car the way you want to. you have to do it their way or they will make you pay

tajabaho1 12-17-2007 11:43 AM

true, so you can technically still mod whatever the hell you want, but when you go to shows, then you will have to mention and promote your sponsers

nycgps 12-17-2007 11:55 AM

that sounds ok. Im pretty sure they make you sign something before they give stuff to you.

Hmm, temping ...

Cody Red 12-17-2007 11:57 AM

i always see this ad in mags. what caught my eye is that one of the sponsers is fidanza, and idk about any of you, but a flywheel from them for free? that would be awesome. not to mention the tyres! but those are the only two i'd go for, unless i could get some matching gauges.

tajabaho1 12-17-2007 02:18 PM

shit, I promote u for free anyways X.X

tajabaho1 12-17-2007 04:33 PM

please get back to me on that, I think I need fixing right now

tajabaho1 12-17-2007 04:45 PM

ooooooooh, I freakin forgot 'll on the I, thats why

its supposed to be

shit, I'll promote you for free anyways X.X
