Wierd OBX exhaust
it looks like this exhaust has a bi-pass before the muffler in the ebay picture. I know that OBX is junk but I was just wondering what that was all about. this is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-C...QQcmdZViewItem

Search Knight Motorsports or Fujitsubo... there has been discussions about this. BOth of those systems use a similar device... it is a "dead pipe" used for resonance tuning... namely to tune out some sound they didn't like.

I dont like that idea either...
|
why not
its just a piece of pipe once its pressurized it won't do anything cept churn zaust a lil |
obx isnt junk.. for the price of their products.. they are the best bang for the buck..normally you have to do slight modifications.. but its well worth the savings..
now for me to pay 1K$ for a HKS exhaust, it better be made out of gold! |
^ amen to that their headers are pretty nice i might just save a few bux on their catback, beings that catbacks make no power on our cars. if anyone has it post a sound clip, also another unknown fact bout obx is that alot of the time they use products from the same manufacturers. IE the obx catback for the Fc IS THE SAME thing as the cork sport. only thing different is the badge. also the company SS autochrome does the same thing. so not all ebay stuff you have to be leary about. just my .02

when I said that they were junk I was just going by what others had said in other threads. I was also thinking about buying the cat-back but didnt know what it would sound like. I dont want to spend a bunch of money on a cat-back that had minimal benefits and if this one sounds good then it would be a good deal

is there actually any basis for these "OBX is junk" claims or are people just assuming its junk coz its cheaper. Any real experiences?
|
I have heard that people have had past experiences on different cars and that the metal used is thin but I would like to get some new facts
|
OBX is hit and miss from my experience. I bought an OBX stainless exhaust system for my old Miata, and it was a quality piece that was very quiet. It saw extreme duty - auto-x and track schools, and I never had a single problem with it. the quality of the metal was good, welds were nice and clean, and the tip was a nice, understated piece.
I had a friend who bought an OBX header for a Civic, and the piece was low quality. The welds were ugly and sloppy, and the unit cracked within a few weeks of installation. My understanding is that OBX usually takes a "best of breed" product for a given car (Racing Beat, AEM, etc.) and reverse engineers the product, producing a knockoff that costs half the price (or less). Chances are that this is an RB knockoff. |
i think is looks identical to the RE amamya one
